I can't provide any factual answers. However, Rover must have increased journal size for a reason... I would use the larger journals if I were building the engine.

Re: Oil Warning light on !
The point about the later crank driven pumps is that the engine immediately spins up to 1500rpm before dropping back down to idle. I always wondered if this was to make sure the pump was primed... Certainly true for Thor (i.e. late P38 Range Rover) engines.

Both inlets. One is the thermostat bypass, the other is the heater return.
The heater outlet is at the back of the inlet manifold.

Re: 3.9V8 Timing Cover on a 4.6V8
The 4.6 crank is about 20mm longer (approx), so you need what is effectively a sleeve to go over the nose of the crankshaft after the pulley to space it out to the crankshaft bolt. I think I got mine from RPi. Apart from that already stated, the earlier cover will bolt straight on. There might be on...

Have you telephoned Mocal directly? They ought to be able to say if there will ever be any more made.

Re: Blown motor gearbox choice
I would go R380. This is what I have in my Landie, which is a 4.6, fast road cam, ported heads, large bore manifolds and high compression pistons.
I got it 'new' from Ashcroft Transmissions with all of the strengthening mods they offer.

Re: New member (MGB)
It will certainly go better with the 3.9 V8 in there.
I am sure you've realised that it is a very tight fit, and there are a lot of special parts needed to squeeze it in.

Re: Auto to manual conversion
Not sure what the question is?
Make sure you have a spigot bush for a manual in the end of your crankshaft. Otherwise the clutch will not work properly.

Re: Rotrex supercharger on P38 engine
It's in a SWB Land Rover, 4.6 engine with ported heads. I would set it up to suck through the MAF and blow into the Thor inlet manifold throttle body. I believe that the Motronic works fine up to a bit over 300BHP, and can probably be mapped to more if needs be. That sort of number is going to be pe...

Rotrex supercharger on P38 engine
Evening All,
I'm pondering adding a Rotrex supercharger to my P38 engine. I'm thinking that with a low amount of boost, the standard Motronic system will be fine.
Has anybody every fitted a Rotrex supercharger?, which one did you use?, did it work?

Re: Cleaning up a aluminium engine block
Aluminium does oxidise on contact with air, in about 10 seconds. However, the white flaky stuff is also aluminium oxide (I guess a different form). If you paint it, the paint will stick to the white stuff and it will all fall off. Aluminium is very reactive, so you would need something even more rea...

Re: Cleaning up a aluminium engine block
The white stuff is aluminium oxide. Gunk etc. won't move it - you need a mechanical method - wire brush, or media blasting.
