Re: Rover 3.9 turbo, clutch recommendation?
I have a twin plate quartermaster unit and custom EN14 steel button flywheel/starter ring that I might be persuaded to let go. All engineered as a matched set as a direct replacement for std SD1 components. Spec'd to go on the back of a 5.2 wildcat motor. Bought it many years ago but never used, so ...

Re: P38 Auto Box
Kind of as above. What you need is a 4HP22 from a Jag XJ40 (or BMW). They are completely mechanical shift. The RR uses the later 4HP24 which is pretty much identical to the 4HP22 except for the electronics. Then swap out the bolt on bell housing and torque convertor etc from your RR box onto the Jag...

Plenty of composite manifold gasket types available as well as the tin ones. Just ebay search and dozens come up.

Re: what waterpump is this
'76 in the circle is a year of manufacture. plus 12 sections for month. That is a standard type of casting mark used for that. If you want to run the pump faster why not just have a smaller diameter pulley machined up for the P6 one you have? From memory the standard P6 pulley is about 8 or 9 inches...

Re: 3.5 9.75:1 Puffing blue smoke
Oil smoke on over run (and just as you go back onto throttle) is normally valve guides/valve stem seals. You don't say what your valvetrain is, but if you have the old umbrella washers then they will have (broken up and) fallen off - completely normal for an old RV8 especially if you're running a bi...

Re: 4ha reliant scimitar axle
Unfortunately, a quick check seems to suggest I don't have a 3.07/3.08 (or 2.88 actually) gear pair loose or in a complete diff. I'll have a better look at the weekend but I don't think I can't help - sorry.

Loctite 5970 is what I generally use.

Re: 4ha reliant scimitar axle
I'll have to check what I have 'in stock' but pretty sure I'll have a 3.07 pair. I'm in the workshop tonight - I'll have a look. As for interchangeability - it does depend on year a bit but usually it's only the 2.88 ration that isn't an easy swap. The input pinion is so large that the crown wheel f...

Re: Rover V8 sump sealing.
The answer is not to use a gasket, they're pretty much crap. Let's be honest, no OE manufacturer specifies cork or simple rubber gaskets these days, especially on sumps. I now always use proper automotive grade silicon gasket - never had a leak since (although you'd better be sure you don't want to ...

Re: Rover 4.6 main bearing caps, very tight?
Caps are supposed to be interference fit into the block. It's like that to stop fretting failure particularly on cap 4 - common failure on 4.2 engines. In contrast to your analysis of 'I think the block is fooked' - it's not, it would be if they were loose though !

Re: your thought please
But multi IDF or IDA body based EFI looks great (as good as mechanical ones) but I'd still spend my money of a capacity upgrade first.
Can't see the point on spending >£2k on induction on a 3.5L motor though . .

Re: your thought please
I'm with Sidecar - that Offenhauser has no place on a performance engine. Also, your base eninge spec is not 'wild' enough to get any real benefit from the expense and complication of Quads - you'd be better spending that money on a 4.6 short motor. And I wouldn't be fitting Rhoades lifters either -...

Re: RV8 Cheap Starter Motors
Just remember that type of starter has the solenoid on the side where as the sd1 starter has the solenoid hung underneath On the plus side it's about half the size and if it meets the OE spec, about twice as powerful. From memory (it's along time ago now) the 4.6L motor is also more powerful than t...
