Turner Engineering Camshaft H180 - Anyone Tried One?
I keep trying to find information about this new cam they're selling, but with not much luck. Lift is 11.2mm, just above the 10.8mm limit listed in Mr. Hammill's book as being the maximum for a standard engine with post-1993 heads. The cam is also supposed to be of much better material than factory ...

And the problem came back, just before a Christmas trip! Same thing - a timing advance made a difference to the power, but by now even I could see that it was a bandaid solution. So, now I'm looking at a cam change. I knew it was worn, but it must be much worse than I thought, and obviously the timi...

Well, I fixed it. I did put a restrictor in the heater bypass but the problem was a bit simpler than that! I'll just paste what I wrote on the other forum, since it may help someone else. Pardon the second-hand posting, but it's a lot of typing! I checked the timing was at 6 BTDC and replaced the ig...

Thanks again, fellas, that's good stuff. I was thinking about when I blocked off those bypass parts, and now I can't remember if that's when I also had the bad new thermostat. Maybe I blamed the bypass when it was actually the thermostat. (This comes from making too many changes at once - and I shou...

Thanks a lot, guys. You know, at one point I did block off the outlet at the back of the inlet manifold, left the pipe underneath empty, and blocked off the inlet at the back of the timing cover that the pipe was connected to, reasoning that they weren't needed without a heater. It most certainly di...

Funny Overheating Problem with Carby V8
I posted this over at an Australian Land-Rover forum that I'm on, and when someone said that this may be the start of a head gasket leak I thought it would be a good idea to post my question here, since such gasket leaks are no doubt well known by some! Here is what I posted in the other forum: I've...

Blanking Off Heater Connections in a RRC
Now, I do realise this has been covered and I did do my forum duty by searching first, but I just wanted to double-check on this one. On a Rangie carby engine, there are two inlets in the timing cover behind the water pump. The RH inlet, (looking from the driver's seat, naturally), goes to a steel p...

Okay, thanks for that guys, as I was suspecting as much. The more I first read the book, the more I thought that I'm doomed to spend huge amounts of cash and then I managed to rein myself in and remember that thousands of these motors have lasted very well in boring, everyday life. To be fair, as so...

Mmmm . . . I forgot, check every single vacuum hose. Check the ends, check all along for cracks, everything. They are notorious as a very slight vacuum leak can cause all sorts of havoc. This is in line with what I was saying earlier about checking all the simple (and cheap) stuff first. Sorry, don'...

It sounds like you're in a hurry and I'm probably too late but you really should use a high-zinc oil, preferably a running-in oil. The cam and lifters really need that zinc for the initial start-up. Penrite do this sort of thing. In the olden days lots of oils would have been okay but now that they'...

Trust me on this - I learned it the hard way! Don't muck about with additives or guesses or whatever, just use a step-by-step process of checking one thing at a time. Start with all air and fuel filters so that you know they're okay. Then the ignition as it's the most common place for problems. Chec...

Aha. This would only be for earlier blocks where the caps can sit at angle before being tapped in, not later blocks where the bigger caps, (the ones where they could be cross-bolted but haven't been), can only slide down into place. Thanks for that. Yes, it's a scary book since by the time you've re...
