Well done Chris - Turned out to be the module.

I've then replaced the cap and rotor as well as fitting OEM ignition leads. Car runs cleaner now and there is less smoke from the tail pipe.

Hot coil but running OKish

I've got a problem with a 92/93MY Classic Range Rover with a 3.9 Rover V8. The car appears to start and run OK, except for a new problem invloving a failing Vacuum advance which sometimes causes the revs to drop and rise again (probably the IACV cutting it to try and idle it?). The plugs are BPR6E a...

Thanks again for the comments.

So do you think the running in oil should be dropped before the 500 mile expected change?

Thanks. It's the Millers running in oil which Turners supply with the engine package, so it it specified. I think I'll just use the car as normal keeping the revs down to 2000/2500ish and drop the oil at around 500 miles as specified. At least then I'm not risking the Turner guarantee.

Thanks (as always) for the replies. Went for a slow jaunt this evening. Managed 40 miles... I did run the vehicle at 2k on first start up but perhaps only for 10 minutes or so. I has to stop the engine briefly to correct a coolant leak, but then started the process again, so maybe 15 minutes at 2k f...

Running in new RV8

I've recently fitted a 4.6 Turner Engineering unit to my p38 Range Rover.

I've now got the engine running on the running in oil.

What's the best way to run in a new engine over the 500 miles or so before the first oil change? Is it a set procedure?

Well called Richard Turner this morning and he said best way is to start engine to 2,000RPM and wait 5 seconds for oil light to go out. Worked perfectly, so many thanks to Turner Engineering. Thanks guys for the thoughts.

Thanks for the reply. I've actually used a mityvac unit to pump oil back into the oil gallaries via one of the upper bolt blanks. I do have the engine oil cooler and I've read a couple of posts saying it may be possible to reverse the engine so oil from this point can find its way back down the sump...

Hi Denis.

It's the crank driven oil pump with the later front cover.

Oil priming problem 4.6 RV8

Hi. I've reached the point of checking oil pressure before start up on a 4.6 Rover V8. The engine is in a P38 Range Rover and the engine is a Turner Engineering unit, complete with new front cover and gas flowed heads. We ended up sending the first front cover back as there was a crack in the case. ...

Thanks guys. I'm still wondering if I should go for a mild tweek, as in heads + any other bits around the heads or just sell my 4.6HSE for a p38 Overfinch 570 with the SBC 350 already delivering the goods. I guess a total of £2500 including heads + extras + rolling road and Mark Adams' time isn't an...

Thanks for the heads-up, Kevin. I thought the £1200 for the Merlin's were expensive enough  .

I'll keep an eye on the TA Performance ones. Shame the exchange rate has gone t1ts up...

Thanks for the reply, Chris. Yes, I suppose it is down to heads. Who do you suggest talking to? I know Real Steel have these MerlinF85 heads which are supposed to be ok on Range Rovers. They are around £1200 a pair though. :? I suppose you are right though. Maybe a chat with Mark is the way to go. I...

Range Rover p38 4.6 power increase

Hi guys: Just been throwing some thoughts together about trying to up the torque and power output from my 4.6HSE Rover V8. It's a GEMS ECM, and the engine is a 'Genuine Exchange' unit, fitted in 2004 @ 110k miles. The car has done approximately 50,000 miles on this unit. It's had very regular oil ch...
