Overhaul kits were available in the late 1980s as I have one. Comes with the spring loaded seal mechanism and the ceramic washer but no bearing.

The ceramic washer fits into the back of the impeller, onto which the seal runs. The impeller is one use only, so a new one would need to be sourced.

The distributor that I use in my 4.6 was regraphed so as to operate correctly with that engine.

Apparently, all versions of the blocks are drilled and tapped the same.
The 4.0 and 4.6 litre tempest engines were drilled and tapped for the windage tray, but the later Thor engines were not, although the casting was the same.

Probably not!

The fitment to the engine is not the problem, it is the very minimal space for the pipes to exit which is where the problem resides.

The timing cover is responsible for determining the type of oil pick up required, not the sump. The 4.6 in my P6B runs the P6 sump, which did require relieving, SD1 timing cover and oil pump, P6 oil pick up. The P6B windage tray was attached to the block after drilling and tapping as was necessary. ...

My 4.6 has been running with SU carburettors since 2007, covering over 100,000 Miles since that time. Is your engine fairly standard or upgraded in many different ways, as the needles and springs will be dependent upon either? If the former, I would start with BAC needles, and if these prove to be t...

They have nothing to do with the actual casting.

Are you wondering what type of heads they might be or when they may have been cast?

Using the 3.5 litre sump with the 4.6 engine is fine, but as has been mentioned, you must use both the 3.5 dipstick that matches the sump, and the matching dip stick tube. There are different 3.5 litre sumps, so you need to find the matching parts for THAT particular design of sump. I use a 3.5 litr...

The plastic floats can take on petrol, the bowls fill more than they should and the excess flows out of the overflow.

I guess that both Ford and Holden are just bowing to the buying trends of the consumer. If people were buying Ford and Holden 6 cylinder and V8 cars in large numbers, then I expect that they would be remaining. That unfortunately is not the case. Nothing lasts forever, and all good things eventually...

It would depend on what you want to use the vehicle for. The 4.6 litre engine, what will it be running in? Personally, I would not use a camshaft designed for a 3.5 litre engine in a 4.6 litre. I run a 4.6 litre with a distributor, regraphed for the engine, in my Rover. The camshaft was custom made,...

Hello Dave, If i recall correctly, that power figure is the gross figure with the engine void of all ancillaries. The P6B had a gross output of 186HP, whilst at the rear wheels running via the 3 speed auto, anywhere from 60HP to say 110HP would be expected. Mine had 93HP, so anywhere between those b...

The 4.6 camshaft was the only Rover camshaft to feature an asymmetrical design. For all other capacities, the camshafts were symmetrical. Given that configuration was created especially for the 4.6 litre engine, I cannot say what fitting one into the smaller 4.0 litre engine would achieve. I tend to...

The heads are the same, although there are only subtle differences between the blocks. The pistons are slightly different in terms of the compression ratio.
