Hi Pete, Yes the trapped air syndrome behind the thermostat without an air release point. As Perry mentioned, most modern stats don't have the jiggle pin, but many have bleed notches instead. From my own experience I find the latter to be superior in terms of how quickly the system reaches operating...

sidecar wrote,... The way that the engine would overheat was odd, some parts of the coolant system would only be luke warm whilst other bits were too hot and therefore boiling, the resulting steam would then make the system puke coolant out. That to me sounds like the radiator cap is the problem. Wi...

Hi Jono, I have an engine oil cooler on my 4.6, with a sandwich plate before the oil filter, and my engine hasn't seen a drop in oil pressure. My cooler is designed for the Rover V8, so that may well be part of the reason. Has your oil pressure drop only happened since you fitted the oil cooler? Ron.

My 4.6 litre Rover P6B
The following five videos were recorded on October 23, 2012. I did three drive passes, each being recorded onto a separate video. There are differences with each one. http://youtu.be/70RnhU-_P9g http://youtu.be/s0DLyNLzIg0 http://youtu.be/6UakOEKOq7A The next two videos will take you inside my Rover...

Hi Cammy, The water pump and oil pump front cover are both seperate and can be removed individually. The engine will possess the camshaft driven oil pump, the same as those fitted to Rover V8 engines from circa 1976 onwards. All Rover V8 parts are readily available, except some of the items for the ...

Hi Mick, Is the original CR not stamped into the block adjacent to where the dip stick tube enters? From memory it was around 8.13 : 1. The pistons determine the CR, if all else remains unchanged. The 4.2 pistons run with an offset gudgeon pin whereas the 3.9 pistons do not. The LC engines actually ...

Hi Ralph, Rover (Land Rover) designed the camshafts to suit the engines, hence the reason the 4.0 camshaft is different to the 4.6. The latter also featured so it is my understanding the only asymmetrical camshaft fitted to a Rover V8 engine from the factory. Unless the 4.6 has had appropriate work ...

Hi Perry, I don't know if it is the same with Stromberg carburettors, but with the SU the vacuum point is on the air filter side of the butterfly, so the system runs ported vacuum as opposed to manifold vacuum. In this case there is no vacuum advance at idle as the butterfly is closed. Once off idle...

Hello Raggy, If your vacuum advance module is more than a few years old, then it is very likely the diaphragm has perished in which case it isn't working anyway. However if it is working and or you replace it with a new one, then as you correctly surmised only the advance (furthest from the distribu...

I run an oil cooler with my 4.6 in my Rover car, and typically see a 10 degree C increase over the coolant temperature. In my case the oil temp is measured at the base of the sump. My original 3.5 litre engine had no oil cooler, the highest oil temp I noted was on a 36 degree C day in Sydney traffic...

The SU carbs will work perfectly provided you have the breather system on the engine set up correctly. Did you fit the breather at the rear of the lifter gallery? Let me know if you have because now with both SU carbs drawing additional air from each rocker cover via their respective flame traps, yo...
