Baffling ignition problem

Hi has anyone come across the following mind bending situation. My new Lucas 35DLMB8 distributor plus new 12v coil, leads and plugs works really well on the bench - spinning the shaft around produces great sparks across all 8 plugs. When fitted into its housing and on spinning the engine over, the s...

Re: Rocker Gear lubrication

Yesterday I fitted Yella Terra roller Rockers - the version which slide onto the standard rocker shaft. Just noting that it is imperative that the shafts are fitted so that the oil holes face down and in towards the V. Nevertheless, the rocker arm at the front and the one at the rear, don't get the ...

Re: Rocker Gear lubrication

The plot thickens. Having taken off the rocker gear and head, it becomes obvious that the oil feed hole is located at the front. Oddly, it's those front two rockers which were the most damaged. But now I see that all of them have suffered damage to the internal surface. However, there is oil in cavi...

Re: Rocker Gear lubrication

Thank you but I haven't touched the rocker gear other than adjusting valve clearances occasionally. It just happened out of the blue following a few years of happy running on road and track. I guess it must be a blocked oil feed hole and shall remove the head. Perhaps time to inspect the camshaft an...

Re: Rocker Gear lubrication

Not really - it did all seem rather dry around the number 1 cylinder area and of course those rocker arms were bone dry

Rocker Gear lubrication

A pair of my Crane roller-tipped rocker arms have been irreversibly damaged as they were not being lubricated. I can see that oil has travelled along the rocker shaft from the oil feed hole end, but there must be reduced pressure as the shaft gets more and more dry and completely dry at the far end....

Compression test

My engine is very rough and I have just carried out a compression test with these astonishing results: Dry cylinders 1 to 8 92,97,80,70,20,139,70,90 Wet 102, 100,90,60,20,155,95,100 This is supposed to be a high compression Tuscan Challenge engine (albeit fitted with Real Steel composite gaskets. Cl...

Very odd compression test readings

I fancied for the first time ever to do a compression test. What I discovered surprised me in that the readings on one head are all about 170psi (cold) but the readings on the other head are all around the 155psi level. This is a TVR Tuscan Challange engine using composite head gaskets. What could c...
