The Fed rockers should be fine, unless you really want a roller setup it's all down to the max RPM that you're looking for. It'll be RPM that kills the rockers.

Have you double checked that you have all plug leads in the right place?

Are you running efi or carb?

Why not just settle with a rev limit of 6k, for the cost of forged pistons it would make any additional rpm very expensive.

Before looking for a 3.9 there are a few cheap upgrades that will put your 3.5 into 3.9 territory in terms of power.
