4's are to hot. Doesn't a standard sd1 run on 5's iirc? You should be aiming for 6's or thereabouts. I suspect that like Stevie says you have an ignition problem. Is it sooty or oily? Soot is basically carbon, ie unburnt fuel, it's dry to look at. Sometimes you can get oily soot from to much valve ...

If 6's are fouling due to wrong heat range, then you've no mission with 8's, as they are far far colder !!! More than likely you have an ignition problem. Assuming the carburettors are tuned and working properly. But the fact you have one barrel per cylinder, there could quite easily be a fuelling ...

Try B8ecs plugs for a start. Quite a good all rounder these are. Are you saying its the same plug all the time?? Good choice of plugs. I once had a RV8 that would foul No2 constantly. Just a quirk. Thanks guys, I will try diferent plugs. It is diferent plugs but always one of two, I am wondering if...

plug fouling

I am using NGK BPR6ES and I keep getting a random plug fouling after a hard run. The Engine is a 4.6 Rover running quad 45dcoe's. 300 miles and a little rich after a r/road set up. It had a new set and has done 2 x 1/4 mile runs and then the fouling apears on the first cold start afterwards. the plu...

You have kinda lost me here am afraid. CDI doesn't use the - of the car it has its own power supply so whether you mess with the + or the - you are interupting its power supply and this will damage the capacitors. It also doesn't matter if your on the + or the - 50V is 50V and your limiter will get...

Sorry, it is a 6A not AL

So the unit must supply a pulsed + not grounding the - like normal systems, so I could lift the negative side of the coil with the limiter plus some electronics not creating any load on the Mallory unit.

Rev Limiter

I am running a Mallory 6AL and have a progressive limiter available but everyone and Mallory say you cannot use an aftermarket limiter with a CD system. If the limiter clamps the coil neg what harm would this do to the control unit ? I need to use the limiter for safety not driving to it so it shoul...

Clearances

I have a Kent cam and can only adjust the valve clearances cold, it is running quad sidedraughts so it takes 20 mins to get them off. Set at .022 as KC spec sheet it sounds like a bag of spanners, I have read that cold with I could take .012 off the clearance. Does anyone know for sure ? Regards Chris

Does your kill switch have the secondary contact set on it?

Dave
Funny you say that, I was thinking about that today, the one outside by the windscreen pillar does and shunts the alternator on shutdown, the dash mount one does not, of course it should have !!

Hi John

Thanks, hope to do the memory of the car justice. Any details of yours anywhere ?

Can you recommend spark plugs, I used to use NGK in comp engines, what do you run ?

Regards
Chris

Chris, Nice car and properly built, a credit to your workmanship. Just a thought, the works cars had problems with the axle tubes pulling out of the diff housing because they only had plug welds if I remember correctly. They solved the problem by welding the tubes all the way round, you may have al...

I have kept out of here because this is just a bit of fun for me, but this may be of interest to the forum now. Two years in (2-3 hrs a week) and I have just got around to building up the engine. www.take2trs.co.uk/toa My aim is to show the car, the odd sprint and hillclimb but would hope the car co...

Rev Limiter for CDI ignition

I have a Mallory system with a Hyfire6 and no rev limiter, the theory was that it would be easy to find one as I need control inside the car. It seems an imposible task. Can any one sugest anything.

Mallory,s tech support tickets are three years old, so no help there then !
