Re: Rover V8 Cylinder Head Numbers

Note that ALL the heads will fit ALL the blocks, only difference being the 4 outer bolt holes on late heads are not drilled- HRC2479. Later valve guides have steps on the top to take the stem seal shown above. There is talk in the engine manual for 3.9 and 4.2 of a new exhaust valve called 'carbon b...

Re: How do I stop tappet noise?

Late to the party as usual, but...my engine also 74,9.25:1 CR. Some tappet noise. Probably 315k kms. Underside of rocker shafts badly worn, so I replaced with aftermarket shafts and rockers, couple of oil changes. Now nice and quiet. Genuine rockers are crazy $$$, and I am never going to wear these ...

Re: 3.5 SU Lumpy Hot Idle

My 9.25:1 CR 3.5L runs fine at 10 BTDC, on 98 Octane . Recently rebuilt HIF6 carbs - new needle & seat and jets, reset per manual. Mix fine tuned with wideband. 10.5:1 CR will be a bit more critical on timing, but really should be run on highest octane fuel you can get, IMHO.

Re: Uprated oil pump spring yes or no !

The RV8 relies on oil volume more than pressure, and as you have the SD1 front cover there should be plenty of volume. Increasing the pressure with a harder spring will also increase the load on the driving gear on the camshaft, which is generally a bad thing. Just keep up regular oil changes. jp74 ...

Recently had my flywheel cleaned up - they couldnt get the dowels out, so they got planed off. No vibration issues to 3000rpm so far.

Re: Car Battery failures

If a battery flattens in 2 weeks idle there is a significant drain somewhere. Disconnect one pole and put a meter across the pole to the lead set to amps. if you see more than ~30ma, pull fuses one at a time until the reading drops, then you know where some of the drain is - but there may be more th...

Re: RV8 rocker shaft condition

Even if you turn the shafts over, and drill new oil holes you will still have bits of steel embedded in the old rockers and they will wear the shaft quickly. Unless you plan on doing LOTS of miles a cheap set of after market rockers and shafts should outlive you, be nice and quiet, and do their job ...

Re: Rover 215 camshaft gear issue

Hammil recommends the holes in the front face of the block. I have also seen a mod drilling a small (1-1.5mm)in the front cover where the oil pump output enters the block to spray oil directly on the skew gears.

Re: Rover v8 sumps.

The 2 rear sump bolts go into the rear main cap, are slightly longer than the other bolts, and should have a steel reinforcing strip to better clamp that edge of the sump.

Re: Rover V8 cylinder heads (again?)

The head casting numbers , and casting date will tell you a lot. I have 2 HRC2479 heads off a Disco 2 - 28cc chambers, made for composite gaskets, dated 3/94. Bigger valves than p6B.Only 10 head bolt holes.

Re: Rover V8 Engine Numbers Updated:

I have been offered a V8 (via pics only so far), numbered 38DnnnnnC. It is a 3.9, 8.13:1 CR. It has a serpentine front cover, with a dizzy visible. 14CUX loom. I think from a Disco. Looks like 10 bolt heads. Any ideas what the C suffix means please? Is it likely to have a big journal crank - cant se...
