Thanks for the replies. I don't have a impact gun and buying an air compressor is something for the future but not the nearby :) I've soaked the thing in plusgas and WD40 but the trouble is I think with the 160 ft lb torque setting. Once I've changed the cam and timing gears, got the cover back on e...

Removing a RV8 crankshaft pulley?
This had been giving me some right grief for ages now. Basically, I have been trying to undo the crankshaft pulley bolt on my nearly stripped down 3.5 engine which is just proving impossible. Following some advise I've had already: I've got someone to stand on the block which is laying upside down (...

I must apologise for being a c**t here! I got a wire brush on the flat piece you guys pointed out, scrubbed off a load of gunk, then a load of rust, then the bloody number shows through! -19ABlahblahblah Which must denote it being a 3500 SD1 SE/VP, cool 8) Sorry to have been a pain and thanks again ...

The engine is stripped except the bottom end. I wanted to replace the cam and the timing gear for one of those cloyes true timing ones in favor of reusing the nylon toothed rubbish, however 2 things got in the way:- 1) Jamming a piece of wood in the crankcase and using a long crack bar wasn't enough...

I'd think it'll be a near pointless expense. The difference a lighter flywheel will make to most SD1 applications will be unnoticeable, IMO this sort of work is better suited to high revving screaming engines over engines generating low-mid range torque. Yikes! Marki's made me feel better about spla...

Thanks mate. The serial number on the bottom middle grid sqaure on the right hand side is RKG 0558 V3334 on the square next to this there's a faint KK507 stamped and two square above this (diagonal from the Leyland logo) is 22 H O. Still, nothing like the G##A type codes. Are the boxes from the poli...

Thanks Marki. I should have mentioned the remote isn't original to the box as you've noticed, it is alloy and it'll take the stick to exactly the same place as the standard manta position when using the mountings I have. I had no idea it was Jag, though a few recent manta projects I've been advising...

If it helps my Opel Manta with Rover V8 and GM180 autobox was over 180bhp and the box itself handled it fine. The car ended up having a sub 6 second 0-60 time but a top speed of only 85mph when it valve bounced!! This was due to the differential ratio mind  I also know of a couple of Rover V8 ...

My new gearbox, what the hell is it from?
Howdy! Last weekend I made a trip over to Wales to pick up some V8 gear for my next V8 manta project (now on hold due to forthcoming unemployment  ) Amongst the stuff was this LT77 gearbox which'll be replacing my GM180 autobox. This is the first time I've seen an LT77 in the flesh and I was pr...

Thanks. Hmm! That's a real shitter. I've had a good read through some older topics and this new/old cam/lifter thing is regulary mentioned. I can buy some new lifters eventually, but the cam I'm pretty much stuck with. I can't remove the bottom pulley to get the timing cover off and therefore the ti...

Yikes really!? Yes I'm using an old camshaft which used to bash the lifters I was now hoping to reuse. Having muddled up the order are these for the bin and my only option is to buy new? Thanks mate, the project's pretty much on hold until I've got work again (handing in my notice tomorrow) :? Ooh er!

Re-using old cam followers?
Howdy! Silly I know but I've had to decide to fit my old hydraulic lifters to my RV8 for budget reasons, trouble is I've muddled the order and obviously don't want them to clatter around like a bag of spanners! Can I refit them in any order with some cam lube and expect them to run quiet? They have ...
