Re: Oil Warning light on !
just been thinkin about this . Seems that the packing with vaseline is the go to prime the pump . Is there any reason why one couldnt strategically fit a grease nipple to the pump cover to make priming easier .....specially if you have to do it often . If you had a choice ( I do ) would you use the ...

Poor documentation and support in your country ? Australia ? is that for everybody ........or just you . I mean Aus ( much as I hate to admit it ) is hardly backward in technology ..... or motorsport.

Re: 3.9V8 Timing Cover on a 4.6V8
Given that you presumably already have: A toothed wheel on the crank An EDIS module 2 coil packs - Mounted and correcct length leads I'd have though it would be much easier (possibly cheaper) to simply add in an ECU to control the ignition. This would be much better than a distributor system. Perso...

Re: multi plate clutches
Thanks for the replies . I simply dont have room for a booster , looked at that a bit , even an in line booster would be hard to place . I have the 4hp22 with all the bits needed to make it work , apart from the driveshaft yoke , so Im sorta ( financially) stuck with that . Insurance  Had the c...

multi plate clutches
Looking for experience with multi plate clutches . I have above knee amputation , I also have a mk3 Capri .......and a 3.9 rover :D The plan was to fit the rover and toyo 5 speed to my mk2 escort but when I crashed the bike I flagged the project and kept the motor/5 speed. Now I have the capri but n...

Re: Cleaning up a aluminium engine block
Preparation is the key to a good looking job. I know it's either expensive or a pain in the arse but I can tell you that you will regret doing a half arsed job as that's what it will look like . If you go for bead or sand blasting ......I would figure out a way to plug all the holes you don't want f...

Re: Rover V8 cylinder head porting advice.
This is a good read . Shows pix, dimensions and diagrams of various stages of porting Rover heads. Tells you how to do it and what tools /methods are best . If you want to port your heads this ( and David Vizards porting book ) are almost a must have .

Re: Pressure testing block
I go it sorted . One of the bolt holes in the front of the block goes thru to the water jacket ( the one with the stud ) and I was loosing pressure thru that . Once I got it air tight it hold 30 psi ......been over 24 hrs now , on both sides , so I have a good block .

Pressure testing block
I have a 3.9 block that Im trying to test . I have made flat steel plates with 2mm thick rubber stuck to them to blank off holes , fitted a pressure gauge and put 30psi in . The gauge doesnt move at all for an hour but had dropped to 20psi after another 4 hours . I have done the soapy water thing ro...

Re: Knackered Oil Pump?
Hell yes , that has been chewing something hard for a while . Deff needs engine stripped down , pay particular attention to the ends of the lifter galleries just under the blanking plugs because swarf will collect there and if you dont clean it out this swarf will destroy your new motor. The rear pl...

Re: Engine stumbles powering thru corners
I would have thought that putting float bowls on the sides of the carb would cause exactly the problem you describe .. I just had a look at the blurb and they describe the 1404 as "an every day driver with reliable street performance" . Didnt mention track days.......or the high cornering forces inv...

Re: Help! Have I screwd up? Taking BW65 gearbox off.
Another issue is .....the outer shaft that the seal runs on with the two big notches must be fully seated in with the notches engaged . These notches drive the oil pump and its possible to engage the splined shafts but have the notches not so . This leaves the converter sticking out to far ( by the ...

Re: Does the oil flow change direction in a ZF4HP22?
I dont know but I would think that if the fluid did reverse direction it would only be thru the converter. Just thinking that regardless of what its fitted to the likelyhood of there being a thermostatically controlled cooler is good .....ergo , it wouldnt make sense to reverse the flow thru the coo...

Re: Regrind crank or not?
Anything you can feel is definitely suss ,specially if its going into your own motor 😁.Its surprising just how small a gouge you can "finger nail " .....might only be a thou or so . I would get a bit of 800-1000 grit wet and dry sand paper ,cut a strip as wide as the journal , squirt of crc wd40 wha...
