This was something I didn't bother to check once, and after a while the oil pump on the TH350 broke.

I repaired it and fitted a shim between the engine and box, and had no more trouble.

I welded a Range Rover diff some years ago. The star wheels had broken, I just cleaned it up a bit and fired a load of arc welding rods at it. It was a short term measure while I sourced a diff, but I did some road miles a couple of trials without failure.

Without a transbrake, which is only really used for drag racing or similar, keeping your footbrake on with a few revs is the best bet.

This has the advantage of taking up all the slack in the drivetrain so you are much less likely to break something.

A Chap called Tim Samways built a Mk1 V8 in the 1980's

It was mid mounted with a Renault transaxle. He stuck it on it's roof at a silly speed and wore way through the rollcage, although he doesn't mention that on his website! :wink:
