Re: Pinned Liners
Sorry for late reply ! Problem solved when checking plugs found one had been dropped and no gap ! Knocking was 'rough' running when hot and alternator knocking on rad. support ! Doh !

Re: E10 Fuel Detonation Overheating
At 77 with a gammy leg rather dismantle and repair than tear to pieces. Sounds like the setscrews hold in liner but alloy casting weak ? Worth a try in my book ! Plan 3b will be fit another engine. Kit car was running, I understand but my problem was fitting an electronic distributor that had the ou...

Liners = expense.

Re: SD1 Timing Marks
Started from scratch again and found timed up on a different plug as 'No.1' Putting strobe light on the actual 'No.1' meant timing marks not illuminated. Had difficulties in getting sufficient retardation with electronic distributor as attached module clashed with cylinder head. Fitted horizontal th...

Pinned Liners
Hi ! Have read about this cunning mod. using 1/4" setscrews but not any feed back as to whether it lasts ?
Wonder if an easy fix in a little used kit car ?

SD1 Timing Marks
Ahoy !
Have treated myself to a strobe timing light ! However, can't find my Tippexed mark on the pulley.
The vehicle is an old kit car that tends to have space problems around the front of a SD1 V8
so is it likely that there are different pulley/pointer options ?

E10 Fuel Detonation Overheating
Ahoy !
Have a rebuilt SD1 V8 in a kit car (small rad supposedly high efficiency), have blown head gasket due detonation (due overheating).
Is this likely to be exacerbated by E10 fuel ? In which case I am chasing my tail in trying to get it to run cooler with present set up ?

Re: HIF6 Carbs Flooding
Thanks Chris ! Long story short. Bought Ebay pressure gauge (0 - 15psi) and tested pressure with engine off as tried before and no Malpassi regulator. 4psi on the nose. Reconnected and started engine, no flooding. Such joy ! I am of the opinion that the needle valves are marginal in their ability to...

Re: Rover V8 Twin SU's overflowing petrol
Identical problem to mine with a kit car and a Hardi pump (also tried Facet) even using a Malpassi fuel regulator and over height floats (+2mm instead of -1mm). How did it end ?

"so replaced and adjusted to 2mm above the base of float chamber rather than 1mm below to give wiggle room. (had a bit of experience with another kit car) No flooding. Having solved other ignition problems but still not starting, have returned setting to 1mm below. Flooding returned !" I replaced wi...

HIF6 Carbs Flooding
Ahoy ! Encountered flooding probs. with pair of HIF6s in old SD1 V8 in a neglected kit car. Assumed it was needle valves so replaced and adjusted to 2mm above the base of float chamber rather than 1mm below to give wiggle room. (had a bit of experience with another kit car) No flooding. Having solve...

Re: Only fires when over advanced
Good point Harvey as although the engine was reassembled by a professional it had been standing a long time and the owner......? However I think I may have an answer and it is something I have done before, (Ancient Arab proverb, 'Man who is kicked by same donkey twice, never learn') I had put No. 1 ...

Re: Only fires when over advanced
Thanks for help, useful points made but as the thing is trying to fire and it has improved by retarding by a substantial amount and would appear to need more retardation, I am perturbed that something is basically wrong with set up ? The rotor slid in and ended up at 7.00 o'clock, pointing at No.1 w...

Only fires when over advanced
Ahoy ! Have put together SD1 with SU HIF6's and ballast resistor ignition (in which I have no faith !) in my kit car. SDC10369.JPG Find that it only tries to catch when the ignition is retarded by about 45 degrees. (i.e. the dizzy is rotated clockwise) Have checked set up, tdc/oil pump spigot/rotor ...

Re: Oil Pump Tight
Slept on it and evolved a cunning plan ! Tapped oil pump drive shaft firmly using steel bar and large hammer, rotating in steps. (Cover plate to pump is alloy so deformed slightly or at least flattened any high spots.) Then span with rechargeable drill and managed top speed and 20 pounds pressure so...
