Running without thermostat

I've been wondering how much the standard RV8 thermostat impedes water flow by, when open of course. Running a Westfield which is a summer car. Westfield have a compromised cooling system I need as much flow as I can get.

Drill a hole in the top of the thermostat. The later 82c ones have this hole already. I am using the older one which is a 74c I drilled it. Iam intrested in one of these aswell but they dont come with a bypass port! so how would i get the flow of water through the heater matrix and back if i have on...

Yeah I am hoping that this will sort out my cooling issue. With the standard item I have had to install a 180elbow and the top of the elbow is about 5mm higher than the water line of the header tank.

when I first filled my system is was 7.25litres I think. I have Mulfab trap-door and baffled sump. Oil cooler, remote filter and all the pipe-work. Re-filling now I can only get out 5.5litres. so I guess 1.75litres in the pipes and cooler. I would go to a 30 oil pressure will be too low at normal op...

Decided to change the oil. I noticed that starting the car was more troublesome. This morning with a coolant temperature of 12celius it was a nightmare especially as I have now fast idle control. This was previously okay with the 10w40. I've now gone for VR1 5w50! Costs almost twice the price but I ...

Re: Oil pressure reading the same no matter what

Fantastic news, thanks for confirming for me. I spent nearly five years building this car and engine but a total newbie to driving it and what is normal. :D Not sure this is a problem but its strange. My oil pressure when cold at idle is 38psi. Warm it is 25psi when driving its 38-42psi even under h...

I changed my oil at around 300 miles on the clock but the car had been running on the dyno for about 3hours with the mile not clocking up as my sensor is on the front wheel. So my car probably had done the 500. Yeah my pressure is about the same but my concern was its always the same, maybe slight m...

Coolant. I have no oil temperature gauge. I guess the oil may be close to 120 anyway. Do you mean your oil or coolant runs at 90degs? I've read that a good quality shear stable 10w40 ester based fully synth is fine upto an oil temp of 120degs, only if you're seeing temps above this would there be a ...

Re: Oil pressure reading the same no matter what

Not sure this is a problem but its strange. My oil pressure when cold at idle is 38psi. Warm it is 25psi when driving its 38-42psi even under hard acceleration up to 4500. Strange? Do I need to be concerned? I've done an oil change was running 10w40 as this is standard spec for later crank driven 4...

I don't like using flushing oil. No real experience to back up my concerns but if the oil is changed on a regular basis then no need for it surely.
