It's not valve recession that has pulled the valves up 120 thou, Rover built some of the heads like that for some reason! (Which escapes me at the moment). Maybe Rover could then use those heads as a basis for competition work with larger valve lifts but not pockets in the pistons or shortened guid...

Bigger the better !! Get something of at least 35mm^2 cross section area if running it less than 600mm, beyond that go up to at least 50mm^2 Current capacity should be greater than your batteries cold crank limit to reduce voltage drop as much as possible. Don't know how that relates to the numbers ...

Might be Deva DU type or Deva BM can't remember. A fellow boarder ( Dave from MK ? ) got some after I foun...

Martin, Smoke at idle but plugs 'perfect colour' sounds odd. Whether the smoke is oil or fuel the plugs should show something if the problem is serious. How are you checking the colour of the plugs. Ideally you should get the car hot so that the engine is at proper running temperature, any condensat...

Cork gaskets seem to come in two thicknesses, one about 3-4mm which is usually quite soft and I try to avoid these. The other is only 2mm thick and quite firm which I've not had problems with provided you seal the bolts as detailed above. Best sealant I've used is Loctite 3699 - it's a grey rtv type...

Thanks goodsy, its a starting point anyways. My first thoughts were to make a sump included but thought it may be a pain if i wanted to remove the sump for whatever reason, would mean unbolting the mains everytime. Sump will be another project in itself, if this goes ahead then they will make their...

Try the crossbolt without the dowty seal under the head ( the washer with the rubber liner ) just use some instant gasket instead, alternately ditch the adjustable oil pressure relief. Remember rover oil systems are about volume not pressure, high pressure just wears the pump drive gears quicker. Dave

On the other problem, how do i remove the 'dowel' that is stuck flush in the timing cover? as it stops the cover going onto the engine as there is a dowel there? I can recall four dowels in the timing cover although technically only two are in the cover these being the water pump location dowels. T...

The cover I have is a little different to the one in that ebay ad, mines the Mocal one with the remote hose outlets at the bottom looking at the front of the engine. I will take a pic as its much easier to explain. Lol! A picture is worth 1,000 words..... you've obviously got the other Mocal varian...

Ron, That will be because you have the SD1 type cover while Lee has the MG type replacement oil pump cover. Ebay item - MG base The MG version fits with the oil pressure relief cover to the rear just where the crossbolt boss sticks out. http://www.freewebs.com/thefairwatercollection/photos/MGBGTV8/1...
