Was your 3.9 from a range rover?

I found the range rover sump fits ok but there is no room between the crossmember and the sump for the exhaust so you might have to reroute it - obviously depends on your current setup.

Andy,

I've never done it with the setup in the bellhousing but have found that the easier way to get the clip engaged is to put it into the hole then push it over the end of the lever.

Agree on smoothing it off. You want to get rid of any loose bits and high spots that can heat up and cause detonation.

Just looking at the photo I reckon that if you replace the damaged one another will let go. Too much material removed above the ring groove at that location. It would be a false economy not to remove all the pistons and crack test them with a penetrant dye - magnaflux or similar. I think the proper ...

Various dry film and related coatings can be successfully applied by the diy enthusiast, but as has been stated the gains from their use to reduce friction are questionable without very careful attention to clearances. However, thermal barrier coatings seem to give real gains when used sensibly - ma...

Ian, Seen these before - http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MSPORT&pcode=CWP140 can't comment on them but they do look like they would do my diff cooling job. Once did the calcs for a trebuchet to send containers across the channel, decided it was impractical to have a reus...

Ian,

I think Farnell will supply web orders paid by credit card - try item http://uk.farnell.com/7749228/electrica ... ron-mt12b3 which is similar but appears to be at an end of range clearance price.

Ian,

Those equipment fans are like anything else - you get what you pay for !!

I was thinking of something more like this http://www.btinternet.com/~frank859/090 ... 89b5b0.pdf

You could try 'computer' type cooling fans, equipment types rather than cpu but I don't know if they will stand up tp a car enviroment! Was thinking of using them myself on a transmission cooler but have found some other mods to give the reliability I was missing. Try looking on maplin.co.uk or farn...

Hot air will want to rise so why not a normal radiator type fan to blow air up out of engine bay through holes in engine cover.

Alternate if you have side scoops is to blow cool air in - MGF does this to cool engine bay when how.

I think you will find that the 4.6 piston has the gudgion pin nearer the crown and offset to one side compared with the 3.9 or 4.0 piston.

Try restricting the heater circuit, mine flows from the inlet manifold to heater to pump. This is probably flowing too much water if I have understood your reply correctly. It will not take much flow in the heater loop to keep a lot of heat from ever reaching the radiator. In fact you should be able...

Personally I'd like to keep things below 90 C. I know space can be a problem in the front of the GT40 - have you got the fans pulling or pushing through the radiator, are they shrouded and are they a good fit against the radiator matrix? i seem to remember the advice is the fans should suck if possi...

I guess it is not one where all of the water has leaked out That would be a dead loss system  Total loss usually is interpreted as anything that comes out is lost and cannot be recovered. Most production cars run a contained loss system with either a pressurised on unpressurised expansion bott...

Rover's shitty K-series is another perfect example. Remove the head, and you cant turn the engine over, as the pistons are almost stuck in the bores !!! Steve, You make a valid point then instantly loose the plot over exactly the same issue. The Rover K series is a precision item, the bad reputatio...
