Re: New engine problems...
Yes you're right not easy to see. #1 doesn't seem to move any slower. I was away this week, but I'll take another look over the weekend.

Re: New engine problems...
Pulled the valve cover and checked for movement of the rockers - all tight, no movement. I’m going to do the compression tests again, with full throttle and all the plugs out. Runs quite with the belt off. Still a tiny wobble on the crankshaft pulley. I shot a quick video with the cover off. https:/...

Re: New engine problems...
Thanks for those pointers... and yes you're right, I need to find the problem first and this will help me understand whether I can get away with just pulling the head or whether I have to take the engine out. I'm still hoping this will just be a sticking valve - so it's definatley worth pulling off ...

Re: New engine problems...
Re the belt tentioning - I originally thought that it might have been too tight. About 1/2 inch movement? I think the crank pulley and water pump are aligned but maybe the alternator pulley isn't - I don't think I've got that aligned spot on. I'm just looking around for a good North London garage th...

Re: New engine problems...
Yes, I do have an endoscope, not used it much tbh - but I'll give that a go. I guess it would identify if I've put a hole in the top of the piston. That should be easy to spot. I've checked #1 a few times and it displays the same low reading everytime with the compression tester. The leakdown kits a...

Re: New engine problems...
Some feedback... I think the problems have occured because of overheating. I wanted to test that the electric fan thermo switch was working. It didn't kick in at about 80º so I assummed it hadn't reached that temperature. After further investigation I found the switch to be faulty so I suspect I've ...

New engine problems...
Hi Thanks to the support from many on this forum I built my first V8, replacing the 1800 MGB engine. I almost finished the build about 3 years ago but fell ill so couldn’t continue. Now fully recovered, I’m back to it , spending the last 3 months or so welding in new floor for the MG, refitting the ...

Pre load
Hi Guys, I've just installed a Viper Hurricane cam in my Rover 3.5 with new std lifters. I also put in a Cloyes timing chain and used the standard keyway - not either of the 4º options. When I checked the lifter pre-loads, the gap was pretty massive on all of the valves - probably around 150 thou' o...

Re: Very little oil at rockers...!
Sorry for the late response, been on a journey with this one. I did check the rockers and all the holes were pointing in the right direction. Cliff was exactly right the notches appear at the front and back and are therefore in the correct places. The problem turned out to be a sticking relief valve...

Re: Very little oil at rockers...!
Using the drill I'm getting oil at the rockers on both sides. On the left side (2,4,6,8) it seems to be what I would expect. On the right side (where I originally checked) not very much, but I am getting a little. I checked the iD markings on the rocker shaft to ensure it's the right way around. The...

Re: Very little oil at rockers...!
Hi Ian,
Yes I'm running a remote filter. I've got oil flow from the pump, through the filter and into the output hose so I think the flow is correct.
The remote header has an arrow showing input.
So Output from pump to input of filter.
Output of filter, back into the pump.
