Re: Holley Sniper issues
Just a quick update. My Holley Sniper is a series 1 that is still being sold alongside the series 2, which supposedly overcomes all the issues of the series 1. Personally, from my experience, I now wouldn't touch a Series 1 with a barge pole. As previously described, I've now overcome the issues on ...

Re: Sump oil level
Many thanks guys.
Once I've finnished work on the heads I'll drop the sump and concentrate on this aspect of the rebuild.
I'll update at that time with my findings.
Thanks again

Re: Sump oil level
Many thanks for this update. To quote from your post "For reference I also measured from the sump locating face to the stick marks and got the following. Sump face to High mark - 50mm Sump face to Low mark - 70mm Sump face to end of stick - 150mm Sump face to pickup pipe - 150mm" The above...

Re: Holley Sniper issues
Thanks ASC28 I was unaware that Holley had bought out an S2 to rectify all these issues. I actually bought my complete system in February 2021 from Real Steel. I will have to look into whether mine is a series 1 or 2. Do you think the offer to replace the system at a nominal cost came from Holley or...

Re: Sump oil level
Thank you. It looks like we have identical dipsticks and therefore I can rule out the thought that I might have been over filling with oil.
I will double check when I drop the sump.

Re: Sump oil level
Many thanks to you all for your input and suggestions which are very much appreciated. The first question in my mind was should the crank dip into the oil? So the answer to that looks like no. Scudderfush, would you mind measuring your dipstick from where it fits into the top of the guide tube to th...

Re: Holley Sniper issues
Thanks for your replay Sevieturbo. As you have stated there are many things that could cause an O2 sensor to fail although i didn't know exactly what. I am now looking at any potential contamination. Compression tests and leak down tests were good except I found a leaking exhaust valve but this was ...

Sump oil level
Hi All, Could anyone please advise what the engine oil level should be on my 4.6 RV8 in relation to the crank or bottom of the engine block? The reason I am asking is because my dip stick and tube are of unknown origin. On inspecting the inlet valves they have a thick tar like coating on the flow si...

Re: Holley Sniper issues
Thank you for your very comprehensive response. I have just started investigating the sensor issue starting from scratch with a cylinder leak down test and compression test. All appears good except I have found a badly leaking No3 cylinder exhaust valve so I am now in the process of removing the hea...

Re: Holley Sniper issues
Thank you GDCobra for your comprehensive response. I started to list all the tests I have carried out but clearly I need to do them again with a better understanding of what I am looking for. In answer to your question, with the Holley sniper the throttle body is the hub that everything is connected...

Re: PCV valve for RV8
In the time that has passed I have explored many possible reasons for high idle and irratic running. Finaly came down to the Holley Sniper secondary valve slightly sticking open and also a Sniper injector electrical connector issue. I have recently covered this under the heading. "Holley Sniper...

Re: PCV valve for RV8
Hi Scudderfish. Sorry for the very very long delay in answering. Yes you are correct, it is one unit but is basically 2 servos back to back. I"m no expert in this area but having a balance bar peddle box was the only way I could achieve seperate front and rear servo brake control.

Holley Sniper issues
Hi guys, I’ve not been on this forum for a while so thought I would share my experience with the Holley Sniper EFI system which I installed in March 2021 and have run with over the following 3 summers. I have a Dax Rush with a 4.6 RV8 and at that time an Edlebrock 1404 Performer carb. With the assis...

Re: PCV valve for RV8
Thank you for the suggestion and I'm still churning this over in my mind. I'm not a mechanic so just using my own logic here. I believe my system needs a PCV valve because the air entering the crank has not been metered by the Sniper EFI unit (other than resulting AFR via the O2 exhaust sensor). In ...

Re: PCV valve for RV8
Thank you for the information regarding your Thor system, very interesting. I would assume that although your fresh air comes from the inlet of the filter is all part of the metered air and therefore not an issue with regards to the air fuel ratio. Unfortunately I have what I would term as a univers...
