Excellent feedback. Thanks to the both of you. Will hunt out spring clips.
My Malpassi is one of the glass bowl affairs - should I at least be replacing that with an alloy bowl for the sake of safety?

Replacing rubber & hose clips with braided fixed fittings?
Gents, Noob question on fuel plumbing... I am getting a bit paranoid about the potential for fuel leaks in the engine bay and my current arrangement with rubber hose and hose clips seems a bit too risky and looks er,..well rubbish. I've got 8mm copper pipe up to the engine bay via a malpassi filter ...

Ok, er...this is embarrassing...somehow someone had broken into the garage and swapped the pump outlet and inlet pipes over. Crafty thing to do. I won't bother informing the Police as I'm sure they've got plenty of other stuff to do that is far more important. ..cough.. Anyway, oil pressure restored...

thanks Ian. Will try this tonight. Realised I had actually primed the JE pump slightly wrong. The lower port is oil out. John himself had advised to pump oil in the top 3/8 grub screw access port and then crank with the lower output hose loose to allow air out. I've got oil coming out there now but ...

Are you 100% sure the filter is the same as the old one ? Does it have a non return flap ? If so, find one that doesnt and try it. Another tip for troublesome engines, is get one of those vacuum pump thingies for removing fluids eg this sort of thing ( or any vacuum pump really....well almost any l...

Thanks DS, you are right. Nothing else moved since previously working ok which is why I'm baffled.. I did initially start the engine with the car on axle stands, realised that because the car was higher at the front (the dipstick slopes backwards) when it said full this was clearly not the case. The...

Where are you taking your oil pressure from ? The two Allen key screws are NOT where you take the oil pressure from ! You need a take off on the feed of the remote filter pipe,or your filter head I've got a feed off my mocal remote filter point. Pressure gauge and sender for light are Tee'd in ther...

Actually fired it up (was not expecting an issue). Beforehand I took the rockers off, poured oil down the pushrods (used camlube too). Then started it. After a couple of minutes with no pressure registering on the gauge and the orange light still on I switched off. I was expecting it to be rattly as...

No oil pressure after rebuild - what muppetry could this be?
Need some experienced suggestions here... Replaced head gaskets (tin -> felpro composite, heads also skimmed), oil & filter (same type), changed the manifold to an edelbrock performer + new gasket - but now I've got no oil pressure. Neither gauge (mech) or light seem to be registering. It's a JE fro...

What carb are you using? (assuming that you are using a carb). The Edelbrock carb has two ports, one is upstream of the butterflies and will only have vacuum once the butterflies start to open. It's an Eddy. Yes I've figured out the port to use but more wondering how I get to the springs in the mal...

Mallory Magnetic Breakerless Distributor Setup?
Hi Folks, Anyone know how to set the vacuum advance on these and change the springs? Did not want to start undoing things until I knew what I was doing in case there is some special alignment I might cock-up When I suck on the vac port the base does not seem to move..should it? It seems quite stiff ...

Just thought I'd give an update. The mobile welder chap popped round and used Aluminium MIG after grinding out a smooth channel U shape eliminating all of the corrosion. The welding kit he used required 2 13A plugs - the plan being to get lots of heat in for a very short period of time - a real chal...
