I had to offset the engine on my TR7V8 to one side by about 15mm to allow me to use SD1 exhaust manifolds,. I used a combination of mounting the engine at a angle and translating it sideways, It seems to work fine.

It does matter which way the water flows, the heater only works correctly if the feed is too the bottom pipe.

I can't help you with hose part numbers, mine has a LPG conversion and I have just used hose off the roll.

I have also found Thurstons to be very good they did a great job of metal spraying and re-maching the worn stub shaft on my elan. Gosnays are also pretty good. I had a liner failure in a 3.5, it also had a twisted con dod in the same bore so I guess it may have hydrauliced etc in the past, in some w...

The high oil pressure can only really be a faulty relief valve or a blockage in one of the passages which return the oil to the sump, have you tried another pump?

This sounds horibly like mine, mine was also number 2, it also had good compression and ran fine, I replaced the piston, con rod, head gaskets and cam shaft to no avail, eventualy I fitted a secondhand block and pistons which finaly fixed it, on close inspction the liner in the noisy cylinder seems ...

The way I did mine was: Remove LH rocker cover. Turn engine over by hand until inlet valve is closing on number 1(first cyl on LH side). Keep turning engine approx another 180 degrees to TDC (using timing marks and make sure the engine is being turned the right direction). You are now definitely on ...

And for the first batchI'd use the cheapest oil I could find Tesco's used to do a 5l bottle for abour £6 Run it for a couple of hundred miles to check if it works or needs stripped down It will also flush out a pile of crud that is no doubt inside the engine Ian Asda do 20/50 for £6 a gallon, I hav...

Well I finaly gave up on the original engine and bought another. The second engine was a late SD1 engine running well with low oil consumption, as it was running well before I left the crank and pistons untouched (the bores looked fine), on strip down two of the cam lobes were badly worn but otherwi...

I would reckon on around 200bhp would be a reasonable number, v8 has plenty of torque and will be smoother than 200tdi, for me the main reason would be the noise, the tdi is a noisy old 1st generation direct injection, the V8 is about the best engine noise there is. The reasons most people change fr...

I put one in mine and it made a noticible difference, but then my original cam, was past it's best, If the cam in the engine has done some mileage then it's probably worth changing as they are usually the first thing to go. FYI I paid just over £100 from Island 4x4 for the cam, oem followers, chain,...

I bought the SD1 engine in the end, picking up thursday, hopefully selling all the parts I won't need on ebay (sump, carbs etc) will recover most of the cost! I will just transfer the cam and followers over and install it as is, any upgrades etc will have to wait until I have more time and money! As ...

Advice on engine choice

I have a re-con engine with a damaged bore in my TR7 so am looking for a new block and pistons(it also has oversize low compression pistons) to re-build it around. I have two options, the first is a good used 9.35:1 SD1 engine which uses no oil/ water, to this I would just fit my new cam and followe...

I have now managed to isolate the problem, unfortunately it is the bore in cyl number 2 which is distorted being narrower top to bottom than across, my thoughts are that it has been allowed to freeze at some time damaging the bore. So now I have a re-con engine with one damaged bore, so the plan is ...
