I "think" I've cracked it. It now starts first twist, and ticks over sweet, and can be revved like a V8 should. Things I did, - coolant was v v low!! (I know, v v naughty, it needed about 6-8 pints...about half full...why did I not check that? I have now tightened all jubilee clips, we sha...

CTS and wiring between pins 7 and 25 - 3810 ohms. About right?

Fuel pressure at startup is about 2bar and remains stable around 2 when running. A bit low perhaps? Could low fuel pressure cause the symptons above...even though the symptoms point to over fuelling?

Great, I will check that now.

What should the resistance be at 70ish degress? Cos I will stick it in a cup of hot water and check (I assume I can do that) ?

Petrol in the oil and poorly in general - Hotwire Injection

Hi All, BACKGROUND Engine is a 3.5, originally from a 1977 SD1, pretty standard other than having 3.9 Hotwire Fuel Injection. It has run lovely for years, v v sweet. Great economy, starts first time, very fast car. But now it doesn't. THE SYMPTOMS 1 - Wont start. 2 - Starter turns lovely, but no sig...

Sorted.

Not sure what it was exactly. But I cleaned up all the terminals at the starter motor, and at the fuse boxes, and it now runs lovely!

The end.

Did you try unplugging the CTS as I said? That has the major effect on the fuelling. Unplugging it will make the ECU think the engine is cold and deliver maximum fuelling for a cold start. Or simply unplug it and measure the resistance between the two terminals. Should be approx 2500 ohms at 20C. A...

Right, I'm back on this again. I am certain fuel is not the problem now. Spark may be there but it needs to be full 12 volts for starting. Try hot wiring the coil straight from the battery positive. And yes, rotor buttons are not created equal and there's a lot of dodgy aftermarket ones around Like ...

Here's a summary of everything, It's an MGB with EFI hotwire, on 3.5l, turns over but does not fire. It has previously run trouble free for three years, really really well. No jobs were done prior to this problem. It was being drivig in dry weather at the time, started running lumpy, then stopped. -...

Thanks Ian.

Done that. I have a battery cut off switch, so I'm always disconnecting the battery. Plus, I have run the battery down a couple of times now.

I have a feeling it is fuelling. Any tips on how I can check the injectors are firing as they should?

Thanks everyone. Yes, it's Hotwire, sorry, should have said that. The plugs are soaked. I took them out, cleaned them, regapped them. Think I will pop up the road and get a new set, always handy anyway. I don't have lambda sensors. The fuel pump is certain running, and getting 38psi. I bet it is goi...

Right, I'm registered, at last. Thanks Tony. Thanks everyone for your replies. And thanks Perry for posting it for me. Yes, it's been running for about three years now. It literally started running lumpy one day, took it home, in the garage it was running lumpier and lumpier, then stopped. Fuel pres...
