Heads
Recently pulled the heads off (2000 Thor 4.6) due to low compression on the passenger side bulkhead cylinder and second cylinder from the front drivers side. Block and heads measured flat with a straight edge. Cleaned it all up and put it back together. Should the heads have been skimmed regardless ...

Thankyou Dave, As was said above play is removed with sprocket ftted. However, confirming that either the wrong manual is being used or a seal is missing would be positive. If there is anyone else who could help it would be most appreciated. Update: Spoke to a reputable company this morning and it w...

Afternoon All, Went to fit the cam and found 5-6 mill slack between the final face of the camshaft and the thrust plate. The slack disappears when the cam sprocket is fitted, although, the Land Rover Rave manual suggests measure without the sprocket fitted. This is a Thor 4.6. Any help greatly appre...

Thanks Chris. A relief to hear. I have a low compression problem hence the need to check camshaft. Compressions were low at the passenger bulkhead (120) and on the second cylinder from the front on the drivers side (155), have left them and the heads with some wd in to measure any loss. The drivers ...

Bearings
Evening All,
Caught the front bearing removing the camshaft (Range Rover with engine in). Small nicks you can catch your fingernail on. Is it ok to flat them off with 2000 grit or other ? Seems alright to me (will just store more oil in the nick)- wanted to check first?
Thanks hopefully.

From the Workshop Manual 'Range Rover 2000': Sump Gasket upto 99MY: Remove all traces of old sealant from mating faces of cylinder block and sump. Clean mating surfaces with suitable solvent and apply a bead of Hylosil 101 or 106 to sump joint face as shown. Sump Gasket from 99 MY: RTV sealant in 5m...

Blue Loctite and Hydrosil
Range Rover Thor 4.6 V8 60D type 2000>. The Land Rover manual asks for Hylosil to fill the voids between jointing faces on the sump. What is the Hylosil number as used originally? Having removed the splash plate that the pick up goes through (to clean the sump) what is the blue thread lock used? TIA.
