I may be on to something. I've made a photograph of my old standard Rover lifter and the new Rhoads lifter I tend to install. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7113/6898732426_973bd423c7_z.jpg But if I look at the drawing of the Rover manual you can see the smallest plunger is as wide as the lifter inne...

I may be mistaken but the ones I have here laying around it's the middle plunger that is touching the circlip not the smallest (top) one. The smallest plunger that touches the pushrod is loose. You can here them rattling around when I shake the lifter. I measure an approx clearance of 0.8mm with the...

If the hydraulic lifter is not under load it will look like lifter 'B'. This smallest cup has no spring behind it and only the oil pressure could push it up but I was under the impression that the maximum oil pressure won't be enough to win it from the spring pressure when the valve are open. My und...

It's a bit tricky to get just one solid lifter. So I've to make my own but I don't know in what state (A, B or C) I should glue the lifter.

Kind regards

Is the new gasket not faulty and blocking of the pump output. This would explain that there is pressure and you could feel it pump but no oil in the covers. When I primed mine I could see plenty of oil coming from the rockershaft.

Kind regards,

Pumped up lifters due to (for example) high revving

Hi Guys, I'm in the process of learning things regarding valve to piston clearance measurements when using hydraulic lifters. As I understand one should measure the clearance by using a solid lifter and adjust for zero lash (when possible) or to using a solid lifter with your actual lifter pre-load ...

You're all right about the fact that they are clearly talking around the bush regarding the offsets on this gearset. But just to be practical I'm going to try to find a way rectify it my simple means like maybe machining down the timingcover or the sprocket itself. My engine build has been delayed a...

You're totally right. I think I'll drop by this weekend and demand a new set :-) Just kidding. I've already send them the photographs but they didn't react. They also didn't react to my measurement numbers. I have a lot of parts I bought in advance and you're right that not ideal. But at a certain p...

It looks like it. I now have an answer on my question; "Since I'm using a thrust bolt I don't need that casting thingy. So if I would find a way around it is it allowed to install the cam sprocket only because of the shape of the teeth?" Last night I got the following answer: Question: I'm...

The problem is that I'm asking more than one question in the mail. This because they are 'down under' it takes 24 hours to reply since they are asleep when I'm typing. What happens is that they answer one of the three questions. It's like a kind of game :-) But my last mail I've only asked one quest...

JP gave me the following info regarding why not the flip over the CAM sprocket. They didn't react to my question if it was ok to do this regarding the shape of the teeth. In their earlier mail one could conclude that's ok but I asked for a confirmation. They also didn't react to my measured clearanc...

Sorry, I made a mistake when stating my measured numbers. The conclusion etc is still correct (I hope) I've measured: The crank gear when facing the block has a counter bore of .015" The Cam gear when facing the block has an offset of .007" The cam sprocket front face has an offset of .045...

I've done my measurements with a feeler gauge: JP stated: The JP5984 crank gear when facing the block has a counter bore of .015" The JP5984 Cam gear when facing the block has an offset of .045" The cam sprocket front face has an offset of .007". I've measured: The crank gear when fac...

Many thanks for all your help. Tomorrow I'm have the most of the day to play with the engine. I've a couple of older block laying around and I'll try to find why this has a misalignment. To be honest I don't really get the numbers JP gave me. I now know the terms (thanks for the help) but if I do th...

Hi,

They are indeed rounded at the rights side. The left side is straight.

Sorry for the slow response but I was up all night. And hitting 42 years that's not that easy anymore :-)

Tomorrow more...
