When you say 'disconnected the stepper motor' do you mean the electrical connection? or the air feed pipe? It does sound as though you have either an ECU flagged fault (could be a sensor reading out of range) or the stepper is not working properly. I think Ian is right .. reset the ECU first .. then...

Just a note from the previous comments about timing and detonation. The instructions given to adjust the timing until you get the maximum possible just before it 'pinks' is a little dangerous IMHO. There are a number of things that will cause detonation in an engine but the points of primary concern...

Certainly sounds like the dissy to me. If it is a dlm8 the I would say the amplifier pack has had enough .. they usually have display failure at temperature, or could even be the coil breaking down as it gets hot. As Darkspeed said .. if its an 'Opeless' dissy then ask no more .. 90% chance it is th...

Torque settings

I have always used 70ft/lb for the main bolts, all of them, it has always been fine. The ARP bolts are I believe advised slightly higher but unless it is on main studs I have never found a need.

Certainly not a standard fitment .. and also does not look like a wideband .. if it has three wires coming out of the sensor .. one black, one white, one red, then it is a standard narrowband sensor that looks like it has been put in as an afterthought. As for the blue wires .. again certainly not s...

It was about 6 years ago, we don't get that much call for 4.0's, it was a 3.9 / 4.0 with CR at about 10:1 I think, stage III V8D Heads, Bespoke camshaft .. but along the lines of a Kent 404, fully ported injection system, nothing else too special. We had one at 260 ish on the dyno (can't remember th...

If it's on an intermediate front cover .. have you considered something like Megajolt ... wasted spark is so much better than a dissy .. and if you use GEMS coil packs they bolt straight onto the 4.0 Inlet manifold. To be honest the last couple that I have done have worked out to cost about the same...

Re: rv8 timing

my timing marks seem to be way out when at tdc, whats the best way to check for tdc? iv tried most ways, but wondered whats the most accurate. This is the method I use; If you want a bit more accuracy .. drill out an old spark plug big enough to take a bit of welding rod (about 5" long seems to wor...

Nope, it seems to be a misconception about firing with the valve open. Motec and others have suggested it is best to fire against a closed valve. I actually read another article online just a few days ago stating the same. Damned if I can remember where it was though ! Whether the entire injection ...

Have you drilled out many sparkplugs, LOL, Not an easy job, grind off the rolled lip the holds the ceramic in position then try and punch out the ceramic from the plug. I think, the whole plug must be crimped to hold the ceramic so tight rather than the rolled edge, normally ends up with me attacki...

I am obviously biased towards the Rover V8 .. but I have to say that 300BHP normally aspirated would be a pretty wild 4.0. The best results I have ever managed were 275BHP to keep it driveable .. sure if you want to go for a really wild cam and make all the power at the top end of the rev range .. b...

Hylomar is no good because it never quite sets. I use stahdard 'Sovereign' high temperature silicone sealant in very small quantities. Best method I have come up with is; Make sure mating surfaces are spotless and wipe over with brake cleaner to remove any oil. Now put a really light smear all the w...
