A V8 sounds better with a balance pipe. Have Westfield Seight with twin side exhausts and sounds like 2 4 cylinder engines. Running a balance pipe from one side of the car to the other could be done I guess. Has anyone done it and did it improve the exhaust note ? Ground clearance is the issue with...

LT77 gearbox

Have LT77 gearbox in my Seight and this year it has started to develop a harsh grinding type noise in 5th gear. It is the kind of noise you get when the propshaft is out of balance. The harshness is only prevalent in 5th gear. Anyone else experienced this and know what is causing it ?

Drop base means base of filter housing is below top of carb, sometimes necessary for bonnet clearance. Anyway, you have tried running without the filter, so this can't be the problem. Have you read the Edelbrock carb owners manual ? Runs through a number of things to check such as fuel pressure and ...

What air filter do you have and does it have a dropbase ? How close is the top of the air filter housing to the top of the carb ? Ideally there needs to be at least 7cm, but mine seems to work ok with around 6cm. I assume the carb still has a choke flap - is this working ok ? I have taken mine off c...

The map I am currently using is as follows: 500rpm 10' 1000rpm 13' 1500rpm 16' 2000rpm 20' 2500rpm 23' 3000rpm 26' 3500rpm 28' 4000rpm 30' 4500rpm 31' 5000rpm 32' The advance remains at 32 degrees from 5000 up to 6500rpm, which is where the rev limit has been set to. I also have some advance program...

Aldon installed Amethyst in March and it has worked fine ever since. I have 35 DLM8 Powerspark dizzy and Lucas coil. Is your advance determined by engine speed and vacuum ? Does the max advance box in the map equate to the total of rev and vacuum related advance ?

That's a good output from a 3.9. I took mine to Aldon Automotive in March to install their Amethyst mapable ignition box and my 4.6 was showing 270bhp and 300 lbft at 3100rpm. He said it was running lean so didn't want to take it any higher than 5500rpm. Went for a richer set up after that. Shortly ...

I have a Westfield Seight with 4.6 V8 and I have been fine tuning the carb ever since I bought it ! Your engine seems to need a very lean jet and rod set up compared with stock. Do you have a bonnet bulge with air intake or is the filter sticking out of the bonnet ? When I bought my car, the carb ha...

Have just replaced the battery in my Westfield Seight with a Yuasa one for £45. Wanted it to be same dimension as the one being replaced, so went for one used in Minis rated at 390A. Started the car instantly.

Just to update my post. Problem was due to worn bushes on the remote control assembly. The bottom two had completely disintegrated, so the whole assembly was unstable. Managed to replace all 8 bushes from underneath after many hours of torture. Gear change is now better than it has ever been, so wor...

The car is a Westfield SEIGHT.

If bushes are worn or loose, is it a gearbox out job to sort ?

LT77 problem

Gearbox has recently developed a problem when changing from 3rd to 4th. It will go into 4th but vibrates and knocks and the throw seems longer. The next time I drove the car, the problem had moved to 2nd gear. All the other gears can be engaged as normal. Is this a symptom of remote control bush wea...

There is no room above gearbox or bellhousing. It would have to run underneath the gearbox, but this would reduce ground clearance. If it won't change exhaust note then little point doing it. I have the standard Westfield silencers, but had them repacked last year with fibreglass and the note was qu...

Exhaust Note

I have a Westfield Seight with twin side exit exhausts. I have been disappointed with the lack of V8 burble and believe this could be sorted with a balance pipe between the 2 exhausts before the silencers. The problem is the lack of ground clearance to achieve this. Has anyone tried a balance pipe a...

I would be surprised if 83 primaries and 63-47 rods set up is too lean, as this is only 8% leaner than stock on cruise. What air filter set up do you have and which hole is being used on the pump shot lever ? As Sidecar says, it could be a rich bog that causes the hesitation. You could try using the...
