Do the 3.9's come cross bolted and with ribs in the valley? Chris, where's best to source the top hat liners? Only thing that puts me off the bigger sizes is forged piston costs, reading on here my understanding is that chevy or ford items will fit with machining in the 3.5 Do you know if this is t...

Hang on a mo, 300-400 BHP out of a 3.5?????? It would have to be a mega expensive race motor to even get the low end of your BHP range OR it would be need to be blown in one form or another. Doesn't Des tell you how to do that with a feather duster, two half peeled bananas and a 7/16 spanner?? :P :...

Great info guys!

Makes sense about the head bolts, just put my 3.5 up for sale so will keep an eye out for a later 3.5 or bigger.

Sounds a bit stupid to do alot of work on this one when there are better ones to start with.

Cheers

Thanks for that chris, what is meant by cross bolted? Ive noticed the later ones have the reinforcing ribs between the pushrods.

Also are the 14 bolt heads not stronger than the later 10?

Sorry for the noob questions :)

Right engine to start my build?

Hi people,

Just brought a 3.5 off evilbay, looking at the codes its a 76-87 block with 14bolt heads.

Wanted your views on wether this is a good or bad place to start when building a charged lump? Im thinking of aiming for around 300-400hp mark. Any input would be appreciated..

Thanks Bill, building a seat inca van.

Bodywork stage at the moment, plan is to get it back on the road with the diesel lump for next show season and once the v8 is ready take it off the road for the swap :)
