Mis matched SU carbs?

Hello I have just noticed the carbs on my disassembled RV8 are not quite the same. The pots and the black screws at the very top are different. I'm not worried about the asthetics since they won't be visible once the engine is fitted, but is this going to cause running issues? I have to admit althou...

P5B engines all started "840", were all 10.5:1cr, and there were A,B,C & D suffixes. I can't be sure of the differences on A,B & C, other than the crank and piston type changed at some time during that period, but suffix "D" had a lip type rear main seal to replace the rope one. Hello again Harvey....

Hello I'm a little confused over my engine number. I am told the RV8 I bought is from a P5B from about 1970 and the engine number mostly supports this. It is located right at the back next to where the gearbox bolts on and it says 10.5 : 1 cr, 84006823. However, there is a space at the end followed ...

Thank you for the further updates.

I compared the old and "new" heads as suggested and it looks as though they may be for tin gaskets :

So I guess a bit of skimming is on the cards.

Thanks Chris I measured one of the heads as shown in the diagram, and my A and B measurements appear to be about 2mm longer than shown. Does this mean they pre-date the composite gaskets and are intended for use with tin? I used a vernier caliper tool and measured to the red lines : http://homepage....

Hi Mike Thanks for the reply. Just wanted to confirm my understanding was correct, there aren't tin gasket and composite gasket varieties of the HRC 2210 and I can go ahead and order some composite ones without having to get the heads machined. Next question, looking at the Real Steel website there ...

Another cylinder head questioin

Hello all I have a 3.5 RV8 from a P5B, circa 1970 ish (rope seals and all). It's in bits right now and I am slowly reassembling it. I was given some cylinder heads this week with the intention of using the rocker shaft assemblies on my original heads, since the shafts show no wear at all and my orig...

I don't know if it's of any help, but I have a loose RV8 bellhousing in the garage and would be happy to draw around the outline and mark the bolt holes for you? Not exactly an engineer's drawing but let me know if you want.
