Thanks again all, I’m learning a lot very quickly; if this is a ‘steep learning curve’ I’m getting vertigo! I talked to Burlen Technical (they make SU carbs and fuel pumps now) who said the MGB pump I have should do two pints a minute. I did the suggested test at the carb and got less than one pint ...

Yes, I understand the comment on RPI, but Roger Williams in his book also suggests the Facet Red Top among others. I will do the test tomorrow. Real Steel do not list an Edelbrock electric pump on their website; I will ring them tomorrow also. Can anyone explain what a fuel regulator is for, Roger W...

New Fuel Pump?
Hi All, I have now fitted the 4.6 RV8 into the MGB, which still has the standard SU fuel pump, electronic version. I am getting a problem which feels very much like fuel starvation with air getting into the system and then the car stops. After a while it will start and go for a bit. RPI say I need a...

Going Well.... until.... it stopped!
MOT yesterday, passed first time!! Putting some running-in miles I have done about 150miles: going great until a nasty problem arose on the M25, not far from home. The engine was a bit rough for a while then just coughed and stopped. After a short while it started again, went for a few hundred yards...

I have now put a hole in the thermostat, the undertray is there, that is a fibre cover around the oil cooler. The carb is an Edelbrock 500 and the manifold an Offenhauser dual plane with the original SD1 temp sender from the previous installation. The rocker gear is the original 4.6. I just had it r...

Thanks Perry, I thought it was a bit odd, and hopefully you are right as this is easy to cure. Any thoughts on how to measure the temperature of the stat housing? I can't think of anything I have or can get that will do this. Yes the front cover is the SD1 with the dissy driven oil pump, off the old...

Overheating Rover V8
I have just put a 4.6 Rover V8 in my MGB in place of a 3.5 Rover V8, which never ran well. She starts on the button, then the temperature rises and keeps on rising until it’s close to the 140 mark (maximum) on the temperature gauge. At the same time the oil pressure which starts around 35 to 40 drop...

Where's that Spark??
I have a RV8 4.6 with Edelbrock 500, SD1 front cover, i'm trying to get it running for the first time after an 18 month rebuild/refit into my MGB. I have a 35DLM8 aftermarket distributor hardly used, DLB 198 coil (new), new amplifier on distributor and lead from simonbbc today. There's 12 Volts at t...

Spark plugs for RV8
Hi all,
I'm putting a 4.6 with piper 270 cam, otherwise standard with an Eldelbrock 500 into an MGB. What is the right spark plug please?
I have a set of NGK BP5ES, suggested by a friend, will these at least 'do' for now........?
Thanks
Roger

Thanks guys, I knew it wasn't right!. I couldn't believe that the bracket should just be tightened up to locate it and was looking for some other location device. Apparently there is none, but I like the idea of a grub screw or perhaps some sort of pin, and will add this in due course.... I hope the...

Edelbrock 500
The throttle connection bracket on my Edelbrock carb does not look right or operate right. In the picture attached the arm/bracket is pulled left by the spring whereas I think it should run up and down the picture at right angles to the cable. Perhaps there should be a spacer or something? Can anyon...

Thanks guys! This is the first engine rebuild I have done, its only been 18 months so far. Engine's in and connected to the back axle. I've just got to put the top of the engine on, with ignition and carb. and i'll be ready to start her up. The thought terrifies me so no doubt I be back for more idi...

Thanks very much for the response sidecar. AH! is this what I remember reading somewhere? I can see that the rockers might go on the shaft either of the two ways round, so the oil hole under each rocker must be on the pushrod side? So if the rocker assemblies meaning posts, shaft, rockers and spring...
