I cut an old camshaft up and faced up and drilled the bearing sections in the lathe. Then used them inside the shells with a larger piece outside to drive them. Found it easier to tap them in rather than draw them in with a threaded bar

It's possible it may have been fitted to a Series Land Rover where I think you either grind down the end of the gearbox input shaft to match the V8 spigot bush or open up the end of the crankshaft to fit a series spigot bush. Looks like someone did the latter in your case.

101 engine install

Thought I'd better round off my intro thread and say thanks to this forum for outstanding advice by posting up that my 101 is alive and seriously kicking! It's so kicking that I'm seriously considering changing the transfer box gearing, I'm into OD 4th at 50 and still accelerating. I'll make my mind...

True, been a few on DD recently, turbocharged V8 110 on there at the moment. Just never seem to come across many in my numerous contacts.

The usual comment I get when asked about my engine is " why don't you put a diesel in" :x

Hi Jim

Yes, seen your web site. They are definitely thin on the ground in the Land Rover world south of the border!

Hi Andy
Not many of us playing with V8s over here

I overhauled my SUs with kits from Burlen, not cheap but comprehensive.
I have a handbook on SUs if you want to borrow it although the relevant pages will come with a Burlen kit.

No restrictors in 101 manifolds, you got the full 134bhp available at the time, fully laden and towing 105mm light gun is over 5 tonne (and all on drum brakes  ) I'm putting a 3.9efi cam along with all new bearings and rings (when they turn up!) and later heads, timing cover and dizzy but it'...

Hi Mike, thanks for the suggestion! Don't think anyone has done that to a 101 yet, most conversions are diseasels  You can make the canvas flap in a standard 101, they are very low geared (5.57:1 diffs) and well under 2t empty, very rapid take off but screaming it's nuts off at 70 Things have ...

Hi Buffaroo.

The heater on a 101 takes it flow from the rear of the inlet manifold and the return to to a tee piece on the bottom hose, I think it's usual to tap in to them for the LPG water supply. Lots of specific 101 LPG advice over on the 101 club forum.

New here

Hi New here but am on many Land Rover forums and the 101 club forum. Had a 101 for 13 years, been living in Ireland for the last four years. Been doing a lot of reading of posts here after the 101's V8 decided to eat it's camshaft and rocker gear! There's no demand for V8s here so they are w...
