Re: Speedometer and Sensor Compatability

That's really helpfull, thanks for the circuit diagrams, I don't know where you got the one for the pulse generator because I've spent hours searching and the very limited information was contradictory! Dave from the diagram whats your best guess of what the output might have been, a share wave simi...

Re: Speedometer and Sensor Compatability

If you have time it would be really appreciated Dave. I do wonder if I'm getting some sort of bounce/arcing on the Reed, so having the transistor as a buffer will help that side. Equally it may enable a more definitive swing on the output of the transistor if I can run more current through it. Cheer...

Re: Speedometer and Sensor Compatability

Thanks for your ideas everyone. The BMW sensor is definitely a reed switch with two wires and I don't think contains any additional components. In a BMW its connected to ground and the instrumentation and may be switching lower voltages/current than I am. I've tried the Jaycar which on paper looks g...

Re: Speedometer and Sensor Compatability

Thanks guys. I have did make contact with easy cables and they were helpfull but came to the conclusion that I need to send the speedo to them with a sensor to check compatibility and re-work if needed. I have tried all sorts of pull up/down resistor and wiring combinations and nothing works particu...

Re: Speedometer and Sensor Compatability

Thanks Richard, my speedo is from Speedy cables back in 1998! I have called and emailed them a number of times but as yet never had a response.
I've borrowed a small oscilloscope, so I'll have a play with that to see what's actually happening. It may just be a dodgy sensor :?

Re: Speedometer and Sensor Compatability

Checked and it's reed switch, so I get about 1.4 ohms when closed which is about right with a reasonable length of cable. So I have a direct feed of 12v into this and this goes into the speedo/sd1 trip/cruise module and that ends up having around 420 ohms impedance. How I get 6v/12v I don't know so ...

Speedometer and Sensor Compatability

Hi guys, I've just converted my manual Stag over to and Auto box and I'm having difficulty getting the speedo to work properly. The original system worked and consisted of a R380 manual box with a Rover SD1 electronic sender fitted into the mechanical drive. This then feeds the Rover cruise control ...

Re: Micro sguirt

If possible I would go Megasquirt if the cost difference is small, you may decide to use the ignition side at a later date. Being able to map it properly can make a big difference to the Rover engine. I have the MS3 and it sits neatly hidden away beneath the glove compartment plastic inner housing a...

I used the standard plastic housing with flat faced bearing with RST clutch/Flywheel and R380 gearbox. Seems to work OK for the road

That's encouraging, I run up to 12psi too but my compression is fairly high at 9.7:1..however in reality with the Rotrex your only at peak boost when your about to change gear at peak rpm
I'll fit them tonight
Thanks

Spark Plug Heat Range for boosted Rovers

I'm wondering what spark plug heat range you're all using on your boosted Rovers? I've been using NGKBPR8ES for a few years but they seem to be running too cool in normal driving to & from work, ultimately shorting out on the centre ceramic insulator. I've bought some 7's but am a little worried the...

I had the same problem on my Stag, I used a Banjo fitting and no problems with the flow.

I would think they may be too small, I run Bosch 440cc 42lb injectors on mine and the duty gets close to maximum at times.

Too late :( bought a Holley redtop... In reality I think the Facet + the 2L swirlpot would have been fine for use on the road, I rarely use full power and if I do its for a second or two max..might be different on the track though!

Thanks anyway everyone for the advice,
