Well it seems l am doing it about right but need to flatten out the rope seal more.I've come across a video on youtube which shows an American v8 with the same seal and they bash the hell out of it with a piece of tubing and a hammer. So onward and upward then  Have you got a link to the vid...

to me this is a no brainer, a cam and lifters will set you back about £300 to replace, a rear oil seal, about £15 for all of them, furthermore you can replace the oil seals in an afternoon without taking the engine out, but if they are oiled properly when you install then they will handle 2000 revs...

Running in camshaft versus rear crank oil seal

Hi folks I'm hoping you can help with a little contradictory advice I've read. I have a Rover P6 3500S engine (suffix A) that I've completely stripped down for rebuild. You can read about it over on the Classic Rover Forum . I'll be fitting a new camshaft and lifters and replacing the front and rear...

I've got a couple of 500W floodlights to light the garage, they give off a fair bit of heat too. Other than that I've also got an old style parafin stove but parafin is bloody expensive these days. Woolie hat and big thick jumper for me. Also worth looking at the floor. Concrete is not the best insu...

I use a Pertronix Ignitor set-up in my 72 Rover 3500S. Completely reliable (my daily driver) and retains original look, bar one extra wire.

Re water pump: looks like you're using an engine driven fan? An electric fan could free up a lot of space. Good luck getting a high capacity electric fan to fit between the water pump nose and the rad. At best there is around 40-50mm clearance and that's not nearly enough. You can just about get aw...

My first car was a 1978 1500cc Allegro. Very reliable and comfortable. It used to cruise up and down the M6 very well. I paid £300 for it in 1986 and got £300 for it when I traded it in for a Mk2 Cav SRi 3 years later :D

I had this happen very briefly to one of my HIF6s on my Rover. It only happened on the right hand carb and it only happened after I'd replaced the fuel filter. I took the dashpot and piston out and gave the carb a blow through with compressed air. It ran fine after that. I think a small piece of pla...

One thing that hasn't been covered is the efficiency of the cooling system on the go. Is the ram air effect when driving sufficient to keep the engine cool? If it is then is it not simply a case of the fan not moving enough air over the rad to dissipate the heat, ie a bigger, or more powerful, or mo...
