Procedure on removing cylinder heads from RV8?

Rookie question: Finally got around to further tinkering with my P6 engine at the weekend. Took off one cylinder head, really smelly, guess that's some sort of threadlock reacting with the penetrating oil I've been dousing it in? My workshop manual says to clean the bolts immediately, but makes no m...

RV8 3.5 Cylinder Head bolts

OK, this is going to sound stupid, but what size socket/spanner do I need to remove the cylinder head bolts on my '72 3.5 RV8? I've found the torque specs for the engine in my Hanes book, I've got the info regarding thread sizes in my Workshop manual, but I don't have a handy table telling me...

Slow but steady progress rebuilding my '72 P6 3500

Having just received a mail suggesting I might have to re-register on this forum 'cos I haven't posted enough recently, I thought I'd share my travails with the rest of you! Not having a regular income due to my precarious existence as a freelance graphic designer means things haven't been moving on...

Removing cylinder heads from Rover V8

OK, a (silly?) question to all you Rover V8-knowledgeable forum users: I've finally got my '72 Rover P6 V8 engine hung on an engine stand, now I want to remove the heads, but can't get my hands on my Hanes manual and Factory Workshop Manual for a couple more weeks (long story)... Do I have to loosen...

Thanks very much gentlemen for all that instructive advice. Why indeed do extractor tools come in multi-packs! :-) I drilled out some more bolt material around the snapped-off extractor tip, but not enough to get a grip on the tip because the drill tips blunt so quickly. I'll try using the timing co...

Sheared RV8 timing cover bolt problem

I'm rebuilding my '72 P6 3500. I'm also a keen but totally inexperienced amateur! I've sheared off the long lower right bolt through the timing cover (now removed) which looks like it ends in a water passage. There's a bit less than an inch still stuck in the block, sheared flush to the surface. I c...

Thanks gentlemen. It is one of the long ones, the lower right long one. So I have to remove the timing cover then? What about drilling it (yeah, it is snapped inside the threaded bit, not proud) and using one of those reverse-threaded thingamyjigs (can't remember what they're called)?

Sheared lower right long water pump bolt on RV8

:(
I've sheared the lower right long water pump bolt on the '72 3.5 out of my P6B. It has broken off a couple of mm into the water pump casing. How do I get the remainder of the long bolt out now?
Grateful fur any advice gentlemen.

Thanx 4 the info Wotland. NGK BP6ES are different spark plugs, right? What is the advantage to be gained with them? My mate Sven's 50th already sports a set of Magnecor plug wires. Please enlighten us further, what does Gaseous Sequential Injection do, who makes it, where do we get it, and also what...

Your Landy 50th Anniv. sounds super-bad!

Hello Wotland. The sound through the Magnaflow high-flow cats and Borla cat-back pipes is pretty awesome. My buddy here in Berlin, Germany drives a 50th Anniv. Landy fitted with the Borla cat-back, a K&N air filter and a Mark Adams chipset, but it doesn't sound quite so menacing! What else have you ...

It took me absolutely ages to remove the underseal beneath my rusty Rover P6 3500 'Base Unit', lying on my back on a cold garage floor with a hot air blower in the one hand and a scraper in the other, which only removed about 90% of the bloody stuff. The last remnants were rubbed off with diesel-soa...

Retro-fit catalytic converter to 197 Rover P6 3500

Hello knowledgeable ones! I am (ever-so-)slowly rebuilding a 197 Rover 3500 P6 over in Berlin, Germany (currently a bare rolling shell awaiting extensive welding work!). I've been jokingly saying for years that there'll be no petrol left by the time I finish! Now I'm hearing that new legislation her...

A pair of classic P6 Rovers

I own two early '70s V8 Rover P6 saloons, both white with black leather interiors, both languishing in a dry garage here in Berlin awaiting extensive welding to make them roadworthy again. One is unmolested, the other is lowered on a full set of poly bushes and gas shocks with a mildy uprated balanc...
