There is a slightly different philosophical twist that I'm not sure I know the answer to, and that is whether the battery or alternator should be seen as the location of the star-point ground. If the alternator is, then that makes the block the star point ground, which is dead easy. And I'm pretty ...

"the noisiest ground in your car is the battery" :? :? Getting the supply negative to share a common return with a 35-40,000 return of the coil is folley. Yes the connection from the engine to the chassis must also be good as it can be, especially to avoid noise on the sensor side getting to the ec...

This is a pic of the gearbox in my LDV V8 van, it is a R5-150, which I believe is a heavy duty version of the LT77, but basically the same box. Hope it helps. Conrad P.S. just had a look at the gearlver, it is quite a way from the driver seat and leans from left (bottom) to right as you would expect...

BMW manual boxes are either ZF or Getrag. The ZF 5 speeds are 1:1 top gear, and the Getrag 6 speed, as in the E36 M3, E39 M5, E34 540i are 1:1 5th and overdrive in 6th, I can't remember the ratio though (I think it is 0.85 or thereabouts) Be wary of the Getrag 6 speed though, although they are a ver...

I still cant get my head around those high temperatures. 7-800degC at idle just sounds high ??? agree, that would have the manifolds glowing at idle! I am thinking it is a sensor or calibration issue, you sure it is not 700-800 fahrenheit? Interesting that the ports were hand ported, I was not awar...

thanks Bodger,
I just noticed it describes the gearbox as an R5-150 at the top of that info sheet I posted - dohh! Do you think this is a stronger box than the LT77, or just different ratios?

Thanks Ramon,
I just read that off your site yesterday! :D I will probably do a flush and oil change as you described, regardless of what the outcome of this issue is.
Cheers Conrad

thanks Ian, yes clutch is hydraulic, all OEM parts. But that is exactly the feeling I am getting, as if something is jammed under the pedal not allowing enough travel in the clutch arm, or as you say m/cyl sizing or pushrod issues. I will remove the lower bellhousing shield and have abit of an inspe...

thanks Dave, I did not know if it had synchromesh on reverse or not. Reverse will give you a crunch usually, and first is very hard to select, like you are trying to get it in gear without depressing the clutch. From your description I would say the layshaft is still turning. Possibly still a fault ...

sorry but that is not very helpful.
I do not know if the gearbox is definitely the fault, which is why I was asking for input from others as to whether this problem is common with the LT77. And an R380 will be impossible to find here.

LT77 hard to get into gear- any ideas?

I have recently bought a 1995 LDV 400 van with a RV8 and LT77 box. It has only done 30000mls from new. Since picking it up it has been hard to get into first gear or reverse from a standstill. At best it might go in with a small clunk, at worst you get the big grinding noise. Going up and down throu...

got the LT77 box out of my 1995 LDV 400 at the moment to replace the clutch. Marked up the input/output shafts, looks like 5th is 0.77 on mine according to the eyecrometer! Shorter than 0.75,(3 turns of input shaft gives just under 4 turns of output) but taller than 0.8 (8 turns of input shaft gives...
