Heres one I just bought as a spare for my LDV V8 van. It is a Magnetti Marelli unit, 1.4kw, and is a reduction type starter. Fits on R/H side of the engine and is much smaller than an SD1 type, no doubt being reduction drive has better torque/less current draw/lighter. Overall length is 165mm from m...

but the starter will be 24V no? This should be an easy one to diagnose. Don't let the fact that the vehicle is 24V with a screened ignition baffle you, this is a very basic 12 volt points ignition system. With a 14V supply to the ignition system, you should be able to swap out the ignition system ei...

14.5 volts out of the regulator sounds spot on. can you connect ANY old plug lead into the coil to test output? It doesn't have to screw in, just the centre make contact. It is possible the problem might still be on the primary side. Otherwise, find yourself an ohmmeter and test the plug and coil lea...

when you say you diagnosed a weak spark as the problem, what colour is the spark? ARE you SURE it is a weak spark causing the problem? jam one of the plug leads straight into the coil, and a spark plug in the other end and crank it over. You will get 8x the number of sparks as you do at one plug, bu...

Hi Either timing is advanced, or there are deposits of carbon in the cylinders, check the timing and if that is OK. If it is do a "bug sprayer decoke" basically with the engine running at fast idle spray about 1-1.5 litres of water through the inlet side of the engine, without the airfilter in the ...

Normally timing problems (too much advance) show up worse when engine is hot. Is the engine using water? Have you checked with a timing light what the advance is when cranking? The quickest/easiest way to check if it is a timing problem is to disconnect ignition coil(s) and crank over. If the proble...

The first mention of a Desmodromic system is in 1896 and an engine was built in 1907 with it. Mercedes Benz's W196 engine used Desmo back in 1954/55 and Ducati has been using it successfully for years, but that system looks too theoretical to be practically efficient in my opinion. It's a proven re...

I just built my Megasquirt a few weeks ago and installed it running EDIS8 in my Landrover 90. Has been flawless so far. 8) I built an MS1 on a V3 board running MSExtra code, and plan to get it running fuel later this summer. The build manuals can be confusing as the docs don't seem to be totally up...

most ABS sensors (if not all) are magnetic sensors, and the frequency (pulses per revolution) is very high. Most electronic speedos require a square wave signal of much lower frequency. So usually a hall effect sensor, like a Honeywell GT101 is suitable, and pick up on say CV joint bolts or back of ...

The "factory" box you want is from a Daf 400/LDV Convoy V8 van. I have had two of these vans (sick puppy I know!) and the first, a Daf 400 V8 had this ZF 4HP22 box. To be honest, it was the nicest part of the van, really nice shifting, and tall overdrive (0.73 I think) My current van has the 5 speed...

TVR blower setup
I have beeen toying with the idea of fitting a blower to my RV8, and noticed these parts on fleabay being sold by the RV8 Engine Parts Shop. I was not even aware that TVR ever made a blower setup for the Rover! Does anyone have any pics of one of these installed so I can see if it will work in my ap...
