Re: SU carbs and CO2
As it's had the engine conversion to V8 it still needs an MOT regardless of age. IIRC in that case the MOT emissions are checked on whichever is older, the engine or the car.stevieturbo wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 6:55 pm
But....surely a TR7 is nearing the age of no longer needing an MOT ?

Re: Only fires when over advanced
The only time I've had this exact scenario, I concluded that the timing chain had jumped, because when you can get it to run by moving the distributor that far it's because the timing is then working correctly(ish) in relation to the camshaft, not the crankshaft, which is how you are (correctly) set...

Re: Oil Pump Tight
Pattern gaskets can be too thin and that can make the pump tight.

Re: Automatic gearbox oil temperature
Cross contamination due to the transmission cooler in the radiator used to be a problem, and in particular a big problem with Volvos for some reason. I did recovery work for a few transmission repair workshops and towed in lots of cars where it had happened. That's why now I'd always have a separate...

Re: Can Rover sd1 2.4 TD gearbox be fitted to v8 engine?
Diesel SD1 has a taller fifth gear than all the other boxes, the other 4 ratios were the same as the V8

Re: Automatic gearbox oil temperature
You could buy a cooler that's fitted with a thermostat, that way it will bypass the cooler until the fluid is hot enough to need it.

Re: Shorten a bellhousing or get a tiny propshaft
On the ZF conversion in the Triumph Stag they use a BW35 bellhousing, mate the ZF box to that, bolt the ZF converter to the Stag flexplate, and that gets rid of the ZF extra spacer and flexplate used on the RV8, so would shorten the length by the thickness of the spacer and flexplate which is probab...

Re: Master cylinder question.
I don't know if this has been mentioned previously, but back in the day working at the main stealer whenever bleeding them we had to reset the balance compensator afterwards by (IIRC) removing the switch on the valve, then pumping the pedal to reset the valve in the middle, then refitting the switch...

Unless you're trying to flare them on the car:
Expensive, but always does the job. Every other type just seems to want to f*ck me about.

Re: Distributor drive gears ?
P5B & P6B had a driven gear on the shaft, and a male tang on the bottom of the shaft to drive the oil pump. On the SD1 (and onwards) that changed to a gear on the distributor shaft with a flexi joint on the bottom of the gear, to drive the oil pump that is female on the gear. You can fit the later g...
