Hi Piston slap? worn out engine mount allowing contact with the side of the engine bay causing a rattle. Flexplate/Flywheel comming loose? Mains can go, on an engine as low tune as the rover you can have the crank fall in half at the centre main and only get a rattle as you go from load to over run...

hi added to this post,as cannot post new posts(debug etc) but is on the same subject Ihad a very sweet ,very quiet,rover lump. It developed rear main rope oil seal leak,so i pulled out the engine. In the rush about 4am in the morning,on reassembly(no excuse)i fitted the timing chain,but was out by 2...

backfire again
as ive said previously, 87 rr v8 efi,had 12 years,ive had backfires occasionally but just blows a weak link pipe off....(YES HAVE A BLOW BACK VALVE) ive been running very old champion plugs,box standard leads,and id say its backfired 15 times in 12 years,never a problem. anyway head gasket went.head...

87 rr efi 3.5 efi .in order to track down a miss i had,i changed all the usual suspects,cap ,coil ,plugs etc,rotor.. did a test run .......came back and found shed loads of brown dust in dizzy cap,none on outside???? all lucas parts,none of which are brown????? ive still got the occasional backfire....
