Rear main<65/70 lbs rope seal
Other mains<50 to 55 lbs
"rope and cork for rear mains seal......i do love a early engine :( ,yes sarcasism

Hi Piston slap? worn out engine mount allowing contact with the side of the engine bay causing a rattle. Flexplate/Flywheel comming loose? Mains can go, on an engine as low tune as the rover you can have the crank fall in half at the centre main and only get a rattle as you go from load to over run...

hello ive just come back from a view of a rover p5b which is really on the ball,However"owning rv8s for 30 years "this one has a strange knock that hides behind the firing so to speak under load.sounds deep like big ends,but not the familiar patern...So has left me to think crank mains?....but as iv...

hi added to this post,as cannot post new posts(debug etc) but is on the same subject Ihad a very sweet ,very quiet,rover lump. It developed rear main rope oil seal leak,so i pulled out the engine. In the rush about 4am in the morning,on reassembly(no excuse)i fitted the timing chain,but was out by 2...

hi,lpg plumbed in,now the wiring. I have an unusual old lpg switch,,manual control knob 4 clicks round,4 wires,- + p g (earth, live,live to petrol cut out,live to gas cut out). hi all ,thanks for ya posts. bit of a update,good and bad news im gutted to say. im over in maldon The sender can be got hold of,£200 if you want an original part,but britpart do one for £30,not alike visually but same part number "555947".WARNING they only work on so i was told 68 /72.Later engines...

backfire again

as ive said previously, 87 rr v8 efi,had 12 years,ive had backfires occasionally but just blows a weak link pipe off....(YES HAVE A BLOW BACK VALVE) ive been running very old champion plugs,box standard leads,and id say its backfired 15 times in 12 years,never a problem. anyway head gasket went.head...

thanks all,thats cleared the problem up as far as the red dust.....still not running right,,, got to do a search on air flow metres and what trouble they show....ive changed everything and this car runs like a pig,not always,i could be out for hours,all fine then bany coughs spits,dies.on lpg and pe...

brown dust in dizzy cap

87 rr efi 3.5 efi .in order to track down a miss i had,i changed all the usual suspects,cap ,coil ,plugs etc,rotor.. did a test run .......came back and found shed loads of brown dust in dizzy cap,none on outside???? all lucas parts,none of which are brown????? ive still got the occasional backfire....

ive had this lpg 87 3.5 efi rangerover for 12 years,only twice its backfired.but ive a hose,i use as a weak link,and of course the blow back valve....i swear by lpg.runs lovely cold or hot....UNTIL.. i had a head gasket go last month,heads skimmed composite gaskets....i assembled ,drove down the roa...
