By the way, I love your prior observation "done something for one year, 30 times" that was most succinct.
"that was most succinct"

And wrong.

Still, never let the truth come between your tongue and Dangerdoc's arse.

You're not paying attention Ramon! I will go back to the original setup and fix it, then post the solution here (not any time soon, though). Then we, and the millions who read this archive in the future, will all be very happy bunnies, dolls and spoons!

Forgot to say earlier. Ramon said this thread was full of dross and a waste of time. Chris' suggestion alone about the LED lights on the amp, was first class and will be the first thing I try when going back to fix the original system. For me, and I'm sure others reading it, not dross, and not a was...

Re: intermittent spark

Ramon is pretty near the point. He is? Pretty near the bottle, I should say. An open mind is essential. You bet. If you are getting wet plugs, you simply MUST consider over fueling and not just a dodgy spark. I don't know if you have read the thread. I could see the spark failing, in front of my ey...

Good news then Charles? Hi Ramon. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Of course it's good news. One dog-rough car that wouldn't drive into the lockup, versus a sweet beauty that has recently got me up and down to London. Good news in my book and anyone else's with a degree of sense! Back to B...

However, this is how it should be: Hello again Chris. Just to nail these voltages... With ignition off, both sides of the coil should measure 0V when measured between ground and the coil terminal. Check If you measure between the batt +ve terminal and either coil terminal, I would expect to get 12V...

What do you think? I think you're a hoot and I could read your stuff all day!! You're going to be disappointed with me, Ramon...I fitted a points distributor, now she runs like a dream!! So it wasn't fuel (hee hee!). Could have been any of the parts I removed: coil, amp, amp to distributor lead, di...

Just went back to re read your original thread, more carefully, I notice that you mention a Lucas DCB 198 don't know if thats a typo and you meant DLB198 and if thats the coil you are currently using. Well spotted, Kevin! I hand-wrote the number from the coil...my L looked liked a C! It is indeed a...

Forgot to mention. This business of getting battery voltage when I should be getting zero. Same thing happens with my original amp and the brand new one. Even with my limited knowledge of electronics, I can see that the coil -ve must be earthing at this point, to give me the battery voltage. The onl...

Hi Chris. Thanks for the clarification, much appreciated (electronics are not my thing!). Here's a picture of the Land Rover manual item concerning the coil negative voltage. This is where I am getting battery voltage where I apparently should be getting zero. There is only ONE wire on my coil negat...

Thanks again, Ramon. Really appreciate you taking the time to respond. I've been working at this for nearly three weeks solid now, and I'm tearing my hair out! I only just got the car and haven't driven it in any meaningful way as yet. I'm dying to get her up and running (she's a nice car)! Hence my...

Hi Ramon. Here's a picture of my ignition amp (the brand new one): http://charlessweeney.com/images/range_rover_ignition_amp.jpg The wiring looks different to yours. The wire from the resistor to the coil test pnt. I have decided to try a points distributor in it...I know where I am with them! I wil...

Start it at night Let it run and see if you have arcing anywhere around the distrbutor cap and leads Could be something that simple and just need to move wires apart or away from chassis / rockers Ian Hi Ian. Did that before. In a pitch-black lockup at night. Not a glimmer. I have decided to try a ...

Hi Chris. Thanks for that. - You need more instrumentation. I would fit two LEDs, one to coil +ve, one to coil -ve (with appropriate series resistors). I would then expect to be able to tell if the low tension circuits were in order (or not) as one LED should be permenantly on, the other should flic...
