Re: 'Thor' stalls sometimes

Not sure about a Thor system, but if I had this problem on a Hotwire system I would check the road speed sensor.

Re: Rebuild of a RV8 4.6 instead of the 3.9

The water pump opposite direction on the serpentine engine is achieved by the routing of the drive belt, via an idler pulley, which also keeps tension on the drive belt. If you cannot fit a serpentine belt then I would look into using a longer v belt and route it around an idler pulley, similar to t...

Re: Road Speed Sensor

Hi roverv8bay, Happy to help, if I can. If you send me a PM with your email address I will forward the wiring diagram to you, I don’t do Facebook. To PM me, look in my profile (jenand40) and click on “Send private message”. Are you interested in just the speed sensor circuit or the complete wiring d...

Dave, would be interested to know what Scotchclad sealer is and where it was applied.

Re: Very noisy top end

Hi minorv8, just come across this topic whilst doing a search on a problem I have with my v8.
Have you resolved the problem and what was the cause, i think it’s always good to update the Forum as it might help others in the future.
Thanks.

Re: Constant head gasket sealing problems

If the heads have been skimmed then the two locating dowels in the block for each head, could stop the heads from fully seating, just a thought.

Re: Exhaust manifold temperature.

The temperature was taken at the same position, top of exhaust flange, on each cylinder. Engine is a Rover 4.2 with Hotwire fuel injection. Idle is steady at 700 rpm (Tornado chip) and all spark plugs are the correct colour. Car has not been on the road with this engine fitted so maybe I ought to se...

Re: Rover V8 composite inlet manifold gasket.

Update 2. Now the engine has had more use, I have oil collecting at the back of the inlet manifold, appears to be seeping through the gasket. Looked back at the purchase details and I thought it was a composite gasket but appears to be “Fibre faced with a steel core sponge coated”. Cannot see how it...

Exhaust manifold temperature.

Just carried out a compression test of my engine and whilst it was hot thought a would have a play with my new infrared temperature gun. Came across a variation in the exhaust manifold flanges which I cannot understand, with engine hot, idling the lowest temperature was 70 deg.C (no.7 cylinder) and ...

Re: Hotwire system tune resistor.

Thank you for your replies. Richard - I have a tune resistor fitted, i just wanted thoughts on which is the correct one. Thank you for your offer though. GC Cobra - As the exhaust down pipes were off, and i had the lambda sensors, just took the opportunity to fit them. Was hoping someone on the Foru...

Hotwire system tune resistor.

I have a 4.2 Rover V8 hotwire EFI system (fitted with a Tornado chip) engine in my car which is not fitted with catalytic convertors. I had reason to remove the exhaust system and whilst it was out i took the opportunity to fit lambda bosses to the front downpipes, i already have the Lambda sensors....

Tests for a slipped liner.

I have had a new Rover 4.2 V8 engine sat in the garage for the past 15 or so years and last summer installed it into my Stag to replace a Rover 3.5 V8 engine. On initial start up I ran it for 15 min. at 2000 rpm, I now have a tapping on No.7 cylinder, initially thought it was an exhaust leak, but no...

Re: Rover V8 composite inlet manifold gasket.

Update: Forgot I had posted this question, so I thought i had better post an update in case anyone else comes across a grey gasket. Engine has not been run since my original question date but the gasket is now black all over, with no sign of any oil leaking.
Strange.
