If it's just getting the clutch arm back on, cut a 3-4" hole through the bottom of the ally bell housing, get your hand in and get it back on that way, then screw the/a plate over the hole to cover it up. I can't see it breaking if the engine and box are mounted well, and it would be quick and easy...

Out of interest .... So if you do cut a hole and get it back, will the washers cure the slip? If not, what will you do and what is actually the real problem? Just wondering! I'll probably swear a lot because that'll mean the clutch has been damaged or contaminated with oil somehow. However it will ...

Instead of pulling the motor wouldn't it be better/easier/less effort to drop the 'box? If you have another project and need the space, it would definitely be better to sell it as a going concern because it won't sell overnight if you part it out and the space will still be occupied, but by an effe...

Thats a good question, the thing is I've had the car for seven years spent a small fortune on it and many hours working on it. I decided that once I got it MOT'd this time that would be the last time I'd work on it and the last bit of money to spend on it, just sell it in other words. The odd thing ...

Dilema, serious advice needed

Sorry a bit of a long story. My car, MX5 V8, has been off the road for a year but I've been working on it recently and got it MOT'd ( no advisories) and taxed so took it to a show on Sunday where as usual it pulled in the crowds. However on the way there and back I noticed a very slight clutch slip,...

Cheers for the replies, it'll be stored in a well vented garage. Don't have to worry about the exhaust as that is already going and will need to be replaced anyway. I suppose the best option is to crank it over every so often.
Would it be best to leave the coolant in or drain it off.

Laying up engine

Maybe selling my car or taking it off the road shortly. If I decide to take it off the road it will be laid up for about a year, is there anything I should do to protect the engine?

Feeling it could be improved doesn't mean it can be by 'tuning'. Is it a standard unit or modified? I've not used them for ages, but Southern Carburettors in Morden were half decent once. I didn't realise they were still around, used them years and years ago may give them a look. It's a slightly mo...

Engineers

Some variations on an old theme, some new twists: Two engineering students were walking across a university campus when one said, "Where did you get such a great Jag?" The second engineer replied, "Well, I was walking along yesterday, minding my own business, when a beautiful woman rode up In this J...

I used this company about 2 years back , it cost just over £100 to be put on the rolling road and be tuned. Have to say I was less than impressed, made no difference at all, however I think they let a newbie loose on my car as he didn't seem to have a clue what he was doing. There was some very expe...

Cheers for that, I won't be using a mechanic again, 2nd time of using a mechanic since getting this car (5 years ago) and 2nd time of poor workmanship and a large bill.

Pressure in Crankcase

Following on from my previous post I've been reading past threads about Crank seals and noticed in one thread it said about the positioning of the breather pipes. Before I had the work done I had one pipe going from the rocker cover to the air filter and the other pipe from the PCV to the vacum on t...

Head gaskets were changed because of a very small water seepage from one corner no damage or other work needed doing. Engine is in a MX5 easy access to heads. It's not the valley gaskets thats where I checked first, I actually told him to make sure he put enough sealant in the corners to make sure t...
