Not good... will check Rods n Sods where "kapri" is a leading light of ACE.

Could scupper my project and render the car scrap, zero chance of rebuilding it with spares to std.

Yes. IMHO, it's like so many of these 'EU directive' scares that the likes of the Mail just loves reporting. That never actually happen. Not only would it affect the owners of such vehicles, but the many businesses which support them. So laughable in these times of recession.

no time to read it yet, but more chat here -

http://www.rodsnsods.co.uk/forum/topic/ ... ions-64112

"This is the bit of paperwork that everyone has said would NEVER be produced but it has and the actual act , and implications go far beyond anything in that article. We are seriously in the poop.

We will be opening a seperate forum at ACE where everyone who actually believes and wants to do something can contribute. We simply haven't got time to trawl forums and deal with naysayers .We have just on 6 weeks to stop this happening . Forget the word 'PROPOSAL ' which everyone will try to hang one, this IS happening ( and the procedural method will be explained at ACE) . Precise reason for looseness of date will be given in all info at ACE.

We are NOT trying to be melodramatic, big up ACE or any other poop like that. We wanted to check EVERYTHING first beause it simply has to be correct ."

There's some more info here which suggests that as the uk already has a roadworthiness check "the MOT2 and most replicas go through an IVA test then it doesn't apply. Of course I haven't read the EU document, just posting a link

It seems that any mods (outside of IVA i.e. normal cars) will about be outlawed, all parts will have to be as per original. Wheels, brake pads, whatever. Somehow the MOT tester is supposed to know what's original..

Regardless of general discussion it seems that this could become law in 6 weeks, there is no consultation on this. It needs objections by MPs/MEPs or it will go through.
Worth a skim through the RnS thread, it's long, but much can be skipped, kapri's posts are the main things in it.

Lets face it, when these dickheads dreaming up these rules are doing it. The only thing on their mind is keeping themselves in a job...a job dreaming up ridiculous rules to make their job look important.

They serve no other purpose, and couldnt care less on how those rules impact on others lives.

The obvious-ish push behind this would be car manufacturers, suits them down to the ground. Multi-nationals and politics, a nice mix. Good job politicians aren't easily bought eh.

If they take it far enough they will rule out all aditions and alterations, extra lights on top of the car, cameras and monitors in the cabin, changes to the brakes and engines and suspension that improve performance, changes to the calibration of the speedo, vinel yellow/ orange and blue stickers on the outside, at last the death of the police car. Then there are fire engines, taxies and ambulances to get legislated out of existance, along with armored limosines, pizza bikes, everything made by Bently and Rolls royce prior to 1982 every convertable BMW3 series ever made, the posabilities are endless.
It is easy to get blinded by the Daily Mail anti europe retoric. As a result not see that extreme regulation on vehicles to make them to a very narrow type aproval is not practical or desirable for those who write the legislation, remember councils, police, emergancy services, the military and many comercal interests have to live within this legislation too. Police vehicles can be and often are highly modified production line cars, and not seperatly type aproved.

Someone posted something quite funny on a local forum.

They essentially want to get rid of modified cars...

Our new MOT rules insist any car with HID headlamps MUST have headlamp washers. This despite the fact many never had them fitted in the first place !!
VOSA's rules are different, they just say MAY be fitted.

So they want to outlaw modified cars, and over here we have to modify them to make them legal. LOL

Write to your MEP and give them a hard time.

It's easy to sit back and wait and see what happens, that's what the polish did in 1939  Image

My MEP says:
There is a very long way to go with this proposal - because it was only sent to the parliament on 13th July and we do not get back to work until early September.
The Commission's proposal will go one of the parliament's committees (perhaps Transport, of which I am not a member) and the committee will very probably amend it next year "in First Reading" after hearing from constituents and lobbyists.
So, your member organisation - is it called ACE ? - should get over to Brussels and talk to the committee's members.
After that will come the EU's other legislative chamber's first consideration (the Council of Ministers), then the parliament's second, then their second, and there can be a third stage.
So, a long way to go and many amendments to be considered.
Very helpful.

Is anybody here part of ACE?, are they doing that?

So it sounds like as I suspected yet another silly season story - take some working document and say it's going to be law tomorrow. There have been lots of this sort of thing over the years - usually publicised by those who are against the principle of the EU.
