I have been toying with fitting the electric power steering unit from the Vauxhall Corsa. The motor drives the column rather than the rack & is very compact. I as any one ever fitted one of these to their ford
and which one did you used corsa b,or c
thanks for looking

There is a bloke on the GT40 site that says he is fitting up his GT40 with a Corsa Type C

But Andy is the senior engineer at Lotus so may have additional options / resources open to him that others can only dream of

I have one fitted in my Scimitar from I think Corsa C. Its a bit of a job making all the mounting brackets as these have to be very strong and I wouldn't say its very compact and definitely not light but very doable. You will need to get a control box to fool the column into thinking it is still connected to the ecu. I got mine from eBay, my box also lets me change the amount of assistance given. You will need a big alternator and some heavy wiring as these things draw 40 amps on their own. Depending on what your car is you might be better fitting the normal power steering though if its an option.

i have got the option of fitting the normal power steering rack with a bit of
modification ,but i was just looking at the corsa unit ,and it seems many rally boys fit these corsa unit to their rally cars

yes lots of people fit them but usually only when there wasn't a power rack available such as escorts. Its a way of using a quick rack and still have reasonable steering. The Corsa route does work though albeit they can be unreliable. Its really more an engineering job than anything I.E making mounts and joining original steering stuff to the new column. I have heard it mentioned that it gives the original rack a really hard time on the pinion so I probably wouldn't use a pattern rack like power train or stuff like that as these are usually garbage in that area anyway.
