Can Rover sd1 2.4 TD gearbox be fitted to v8 engine?
Hi, I'm Sergio
My Rover sd1 is automatic and I have a Rover sd1 diesel gearbox.
My big doubt is:
Its behaviour with the diesel gearbox will be the same as a Rover sd1 vitesse petrol gearbox?
Will the car with the diesel gearbox become lazy?
Changing the bellhousing for the V8 is to arrive and ride?
Best regards and thanks for your answers

The diesel SD1 isn't covered in my BL SD1 manual, but I'd guess it has different gearbox ratios. Late Vitesse have different ratios from other SD1 too.

Diesel SD1 has a taller fifth gear than all the other boxes, the other 4 ratios were the same as the V8

Then it could be mounted perfectly on the v8, only the hood would have to be changed.
Would the driveshaft be the same as with the automatic gearbox or would I have to fit the diesel driveshaft?
Is the diesel gearbox prepared for the v8 engine?
Won't it suffer too much?

I am not familiar with the diesel SD1s, but logic from BL's methodology would indicate that they'd use whatever was available to them with minimal changes to save costs...
So, as stated earler, only 5th gear is different, meaning the basic gearbox is the same.
This leaves the bell housing and propshaft as the only likely differences, but as the body shells are the same, I'd say that the position of the gearbos is unchanged to allow for the stick to remain in place, meaning the propshaft is unlikely to be different, leaving the bellhousing as the only other major possible difference.
I'd take a look at the parts catalogue to try and see if there are listed differences in part numbers that would indicate changes to parts.

Rimmer list 7 propshafts for the SD1, depending on engine and gearbox.

Most interesting on fitting a diesel gearbox to a V8 petrol. But if this is not a option. I am after a gearbox for the diesel do you know what the prefix/number is. Thanks.
