draining water from RV8 block

Post by martin_t »

Hi
I need to take the heads off my Rover V8 and wondered if anyone could tell me if I can drain enough water out of the heads\block by just removing the bottom hose (I guess the lowest hose is from the water pump) and draining. the tap\plugs on either side of the block are a sod to get to on my Cobra Replica and I thought If I didn't need to take those out, I wouldn't.
Last time I did it, I just drained the radiator but when I removed the heads there was still a lot of water in there which went everywhere.

Cheers

Martin

Hi
If you undo both the top and bottom hose and blow down the top hose it normally gets enough water out to seperate the heads without too much mess.

If you can jack up the back of the car up as high as possible after you removed the bottom hose then you should be fine.
The problem usually is water trapped at the back of the engine due to the engine angle and jacking will allow it to flow to the front.
