Emergency 911 Water Leak

Post by Simeon »

Well I filled my water system today for the first time which subsequently p***s*d all over the garage floor.

RV8 engine confused about a connection.

A is the back of the water pump which is where the leak is from coming out of the hole. I thought this was just part of the casting and was closed.

B is the stub outlet off the water pump (pre-serpentine)

C is the Stat housing.

Have I piped it correctly? if so does A need blanking off? and if so with what do you reccomend as a blank?

Thats the thermostat bypass connection on the water pump.
If you dont have this connection on the thermostat housing you will need to blank it off. But for goodness sake make sure your thermostat has at least a 5mm hole drilled into the flange. And this hole must be at the 12 O'Clock position in the housing. Otherwise you may suffer air lock issues.

Ah so A should connect to C and B should be blanked off.

Yes the stat has a hole at the 12 0'clock position as you said.

It all makes sense now, I found the answer on another thread which matches up with what you say. It seems a regular topic of conversation this one. the heater feed taps in further downline near the tank. I think I will re-plumb it like your's.

Thanks for all your help guys.
