Airlocks

Post by CastleMGBV8 »

Had a bit of a problem with my new 4.35 engine indicating over heating, but with the thermostat not opening so relaced thermostat and still had the same problem.

I had performed all the usual tricks of topping up the system through the top herater hose to get water into the manifold but no improvement.

So left it alone until today and remembered that I had not opened the the heater valve, turned heater to heat, removed screw in bung from top of rad and started it up checking temps with Sealey temp gun and it still seemed to be getting hotter at the temp sendor position than the manifold runners that connect the water passages in the heads.

Remembeered what Tony (V8 Kid) had advised and gave the throttle a good blip, it chucked out a bit of coolant but the header tank was empty indicating that quite a bit of air had come out as well so shut down and refilled with coolant.

Reatarted the engine and the gauge performed properly and reached normal running temperature and verified this with temp gun, stat opened and car ticked over fine, kept an eye on the gauge and at 90c the fans cut in and it then ran at a steady 88c so think all is well.

Well thats a relief,

Kevin.
