water pipe material/grade

Post by Ralphh85 »

i will be running water pipes up under my car from engine to rad,

5083 ali would be the best material as its fairly corrosion resistant,

however 6082 is the only one available in a thinnish wall thickness (16 gauge).

does anyone know if im likely to get a problem? im not sure what ali engines are made from, or how much anti freeze will save it from corroding?

Ralph

edit: could use stainless an it would last forever but its heaver and will not conduct the heat out so fast which aint so good.

To be honest I don't think it will make an awful lot of difference, I think 6082 just has a little silicoln in it

they are very different materials, 5083 is alot better if you leave it out in the rain but just donno how good it needs to be carrying rad water.

i know antifreeze is a must in alloy engines so hopefully they are no better than 6082.
