Removing water pump

Post by philt1234 »

HI there, new here

Anybody changed out the water pump on a 4.0 serp engine. Looks like mine's goosed and now have a new one to fit. Have heard horror stories about breaking bolts etc.
Any tips before I start to avoid the broken bolt syndrome.

Rgds

not sure with the serp pump,
but when i did my sd1 water pump, i sprayed the bolts with WD40 etc, every night 3 nights prior to pump removal,
that seemed to work ok, and when i refitted the pump i wire wheeled the bolts and coated with copper grease before refitting,

I always wire brush the bolts following removal, makes them very bright and clean indeed. Coat completely with an antiseize lubricant. The one that I use is made by Loctite and lubricant is silver in colour. Been using it for years, bolts undo without any problem at all.

Be sure to torque the bolts as per specification, not more not less.

Best of luck,
Ron.
