Choosing a radiator

Post by Andy Mc »

Hi chaps, whats the general rule of thumb when choosing a radiator for your rv8 conversion, in this case fd victor, is it capacity or whatever fits in the space, for instance a ford sierra rad fits perfectly into my car but will it cool my engine effectively, I`m not going the custom built route, so any ideas/ suggestions welcomed.

Cheers, Andy

CSR at caprisport has used sierra rads in there capri/rv8 conversions before.
i use the audi alloy 5 cylinder rad in mine which caprisport originaly used,
i tried the copper audi one but the car kept over heating, as soon as i went back to the alloy version it was and still is fine,

pick somthing that fits the hole and is for an engine of similar power, ie if you are looking at a sierra radiator to go with a 3.5 rover conversion go for the radiator out of the 2.8 V6, if you are going for more power go for the cosworth radiator. When fitting the rad make sure you make up a cowel so the air does not go straight past the core.

My old FB Victor had a copper Volvo 240 rad in for about 10 yrs from when the guy built it, then I put an alloy 740 one in, £28 s/h and £70 a new one.

I am running a Sierra rad with the twin diesel fans on my blown 3.5 Capri.
Have no problems at all.
Have the twin fans wired seperate with their own temp switch. One on the left side and one on the right side of the rad and powered by two 25 amp relays.

the difference between 4 and 6 cilinder Sierra are the connections only.

You'll need the 4 cilinder version for the Rover V8 by the waterhose connections.
In UK terms : top hose on passenger side, bottom hose on driverside.
