Silicon v Kevlar v Stainless Braided

Post by tetlow »

Which are the best hoses please?

I have Kevlar at the moment and they seem to be cracking after less than a year!!

Can you buy kits for the RV8 or do you have to buy piecemeal.

Any help much appreciated. :D :D :D

For rad or heater pipes? I used stainless overbraid on most of my rad pipes, partly because I had to join some pieces together. Used possibly slightly gay alloy finishers too : ) Quite pricey really all in.

Also used silicon in places (heater pipes) as it's so nice & flexy & forgiving. Got it in black for slightly less gayness in it's 60s setting...

The stainless pipes look very nice. 8)

Are they effective and reliable? I don't mind being Gay and having a running motor but Gay and Bu**ered.

Do you need to get copies of the existing pipes or do they sell kits?

I am looking to replace all the pipes, rad and heater.

They're just overbraid, so it could conceal probs in the pipes possibly, it slips over existing rubber. I made up the rad hoses from various pieces mostly from NF Auto, some smaller bore hose came from NF Auto and also Speedflow I think, along with the overbraid and finishers. Never had a prob with them. The top hose was made of 2 pieces, joined with an inner alloy sleeve, hi-temp silicon and stainless ties, braided over and its invisible. Never had a prob with any of it. Except one time i used a Halfords flexy somewhere, and it was a bit crap really. USed a bit from NF auto and it was better, would've thought it was the same manufacturer but don;t know...
Tin snips best for cutting the braid, or stainless cutting discs with care (heats up & curls otherwise).

Thanks Bill
I will contact NF Auto and Speedflow and see what they say.
I want it to look nice but I want strength first.
Regards
Dave

I guess Silicon is the one for tuffness, the overbraids just cosmetic. Must protect it a bit too I guess though.
